How much HP will I gain with Mac Cold Air Intake
I have a 2001 Mustang GT 5spd. I'm about to buy the MAC Cold Air Intake. How much HP will I recieve when this is installed?
|
Maybe 2-4 rwhp....
|
What about at the Fly Wheel?
|
Uhhhh..........does that matter? Cold air intake setups aren't really worth mentioning. They sure do look cool though.

cold air only for show
I have put a mac cold air on my 97 stang gt ! You will see and feel no major gains with this mod , yes a little but for the cash not that much. If you do not have gears I would spend the money on them well before I bought that cold air or maybe power pulleys !! But must say if you like to show your stang off the cold air looks nice under the hood !!!!!!

Yeah, screw the C/A kit get some gears like 3.73's or 4.10's from FRPP.

CAI are pretty much useless, I've tested them on my car and gained nothing at the track. Save your money for something that actually gain power.

I am prob going to get flamed for saying this, but. I did notice a performance gain on my car from about 60 MPH +, it pulls a little better and quicker. I noticed about 1-2MPG at high speeds on the highway during long trips. Mine isn't under the car though, and it's not the wimpy little scoop setup. This is the Cervinis hood with the direct dump into the air box. You can't feel any extra power until 50-60 +, but that's about right, since the air moving across the hood isn't fast enough to matter until then. I went for this hood for look, no one down here has it and I am tired of seeing induction hoods on every other car. This entire setup for Hood/ Air Box / Kit was about $500.00. I changed to this setup after I blew up my first engine during a flood. Be very careful with the under car scoops, they love to suck in water. I sucked in about 2 gallons of ice cold flood water and destroyed my first engine. Thanks to StateFarm and Flood damage, I went from a 68K mi engine, to a brand new 0mi engine for about 800.00 in payment for INS. Not too bad for getting a totally new engine from Ford installed, and driven out. !!!!hehe

water scoop
i can't hammer you for the CA kit, but driving in water ? especially with the lower intake, what were you thinking?
|
I didn't purposely drive in deep water, what I was driving in wasn't any worse than normal rain water, and wasn't but an inch deep. What happened was some idiot tried to drive a little to fast into my lane and thought he could speed up faster than he could.... So instead of hitting him, i swerved into a parking lot, ... only problem was that the entrance to the lot went down about 4 inches before it went up, and after the amount of water, it was about 5-6 inches deep, so I had no choice... of course he keeps on driving and it looks like i just pulled in to a lot really quickly. My engine died instantly upon impact of the water, at first I thought I had just shorted the terminals on the battery and caused the computer and electronics to turn off... I didn't find out until later that I had blown a piston, bent a con rod, fractured the crank, and warped the lower section on the block... Funny thing was, i didn't do a single bit of damage to the heads. The dealership wanted to put my old heads on a new short block, that's why it cost us 800.00 and wasn't covered totaly. Theres no way I was going to let them put 60k+ Alum heads on to a brand new short block. I think the ins agent tried to pull one over on them and get out cheap. Anyways, all things considered, I came out good in the end. Where else could you get a new engine installed and drive off the dealer lot for 800.00.
