EEC Coolant Temp Sensor...

Has anybody had this thing go bad? I am still troubleshooting my ignition/miss/hesitation and have replaced everything and I mean everything short of injectors.
I am looking in my Ford manual to see if there is anything written up about it.
I just unplugged it and took it out for a spin and it ran pretty good, a lot better than it has been.
I assume the EEC just references a memory table if it is recieving no input from the sensor.
I read that a malfunctioning one could cause problems ranging from too rich(hunting idle) to too lean.
Man, I will be pissed if this has been the problem the WHOLE time. I know I have never changed this thing...

Try getting a new one, I don't recall them being very expensive.

They are cheap, and can cause a variety of drivability problems when they go bad. Replace it. Also, see my reply about your plug wires in your other thread.

Take care,
-Chris

Thanks...

PKRWUD,
Thanks for the info. I have a new ECT sensor and it's going in now. I had it unplugged all morning and the car ran better, still has a hesitation.
As for my wires, I will make sure none are touching and while I am at it, I am going to pull the distro cover and make sure at 0* BTDC that No 1 is around the first third of the rotor head and then re-adjust timing.
Thanks for the tips, I didn't think crossfire was an issue with good wires like MSD's...

Spark plug wires with thicker insulation certainly will help reduce crossfire, but that Blaster coil can easily make up for it! Just make sure the wires going to #5 & #6 are not touching at all.

Also, don't forget to remove your spout connector when you reset your timing.

Take care,
-Chris

Finished...

Finished re-timing and re-routing the wires(5 and 6 are well clear).
Turning by hand is no fun.
Initial timing at 14*...
Replaced the ECT sensor too, disconnected the battery for 20 mins...
I'll let you know, having a cold one first...:D

Well?

failed hall sensor...

PKRWUD,
You're gonna love this one.
I tested my Hall Sensor INSIDE my distributor and it failed an ohm check. I just finished putting in my old Duraspark ignition(been sitting in a box for 4 years) after cleaning it up.
Going to set the timing again and take her for a spin.
My only consolation is that it has taken some folks over a year to isolate this fault.
Test run in an hour.
But first, a bloody mary is in order.:D
Oh yeah, I ordered a SN95 electric fan kit and it should be here today. Another 10 rwhp at the dyno!(my clutch fan was locked up last time at the dyno, so that made my mind up for me)

PKRWUD 04-03-2002 09:04 AM

Must be a Mallory.

Hozer 88GTConv 04-03-2002 09:17 AM

Mallory=Crap

Yep!!!
That did it.
Feels like a different car!
I am going to write Mallory a nice letter and tell them what I think, but I am sure they won't care because they have had my money for a while.
Thanks for the tips.
Dyno to come after electric fan install.
Cheers.
