How Do I Replace The Quadrant & Cable?
I have a new adjustable quadrant, and cable on their way, should be in by tomorrow, and was wondering what kind of helpfull advice, or easier ways to install/remove them..
thanks |
I replied with this in an earlier post:
"Pull the seat. It's only four bolts and it will make this job about 1000% easier. I just did this and it's fairly simple, just a PITA. The quadrant is 2 white plastic pieces located above the accelerator pedal. You'll need to pull the pins on the rods and slide the pieces off. The triangular piece isn't too hard but the smaller spring loaded pice near the firewall is a real pain. I pried the spring part over the rod (or bolt or whatever you call that piece) and slid it off that way. Some people say to just break the pieces out. Once you get the old quadrant out the new one goes on easy. It took me about an hour to get the pieces out, but about 2 hours of swearing and about 18 hours of ignoring it, hoping it would remove itself." |
Does anyone know what toold i would need? the reason i ask, is because i will start tomorrow after work, but i need the car driveable by the next day.
thanks |
I didn't use any special tools. You'll want a pair of long needlenose to pull the cotter pins off the ends of the bolts so you can slide the old quad out and probably a screwdriver to help pry it out. You'll need a light as it's very dark under the dash. If your replacing the cable at the same time you need a 5/16's (I think) box wrench or socket to remove the 1 bolt holding on the inspection cover on the bell housing and a pry bar to pull the clutch fork out so you can remove the cable. It's very simple, just a PITA working under the dash.

Is this a firewall adjuster? let me know how you like it, im trying to improve my shifting, stock cable sux in traffic.....
|
Coupe5oh, I just put the firewall adjuster on mine and I really like it. I can adjust where the pedal is when the clutch grabs to where I want it with the simple turn of the wrist. The adjuster was probably the easiest mod I've done with the possible exception of the K&N panel filter. From what I understand it's easier to adjust with the firewall adjuster than with the adjustable cable, but I've never seen an adjustable cable so i couldn't say for sure.

i have the hays adjustable clutch, and quadrant kit, but i was wondering how you adjust the clutch?
i think ill do it on friday(before racing) |
the adjustable clutch cable will have an adjustment nut on the end where it hooks to the clutch fork. It's pretty self explanitory, turn it one way and you'll tighten the cable, the other way and you'll loosen it.
by the way, with most adjustable cables that i've seen you will have to leave the cover off because the cable is too long good luck, I hope you dont have a bad back, because its gonna be hurtin afterwards :D -Drew |
My advice is to recuit a neighborhood kid with small hands :D Some will even do it for a chocolate bar or a can of coke! With my car I was able to change the quadrant in a matter of minutes but on my friends car we cursed at it for a couple of hours trying to get the spring loaded piece out.
I was thinking of going to mission on friday but I'm gonna go to the Arts County Fair at UBC instead (As a student there it is almost my duty to go there and get completely ruined), hoping to get there on the 12th though. |
