Power Steering Blues / Conversion Help

I have a radically altered 66 Restomod running power steering. I hate it and it needs to go away. Has anyone tried removing the pump and the power cylinder and run it like that?

I would really like to go with a bolt in style rack and pinion, but Sacramento Mustang seems to have abandoned their product.

Any suggestions or recommendations are appreciated.

why do you want to get rid of your power steering? I have the original manual steering and manual brakes on my 67 and i've wish many times that i had power steering on my car because it takes so much effort to turn the damn car.

I just tossed the power steering on my car (69 mustang). I dunno about a 66, but from mid 67 through 70 (all the same), all you have to do is use a manual centerlink, pitman arm, and smaller bushing on the idler arm. If you don't feel like dropping everything, mustangs unlimited sells a piece that bolts on your existing centerlink and allows you to toss the power setup. This is all on mid 67-70 again, I'm not sure about 66, but I imagine the procedure is very close if not the same.

Metalhead, if you have a late 67 (there was a midyear change) and want to convert, I have everything necessary --- it's in great shape - just took it off my car a month ago. I'm about to sell the setup. I was going to put it on ebay, but if you want it, just email me and we can work something out.

I put on the one from mustangs unlimited and it fit in great. just two bolts. I recomend painting the centerlink first or it will rust up.

I tossed my power steering out. Old systems are poorly engineered. So instead of having the hoses burn on my headers, having no room to work on engine, and the excess drag I took it out. Put in a manual system and am happy. Next is a rack and pinion. I'm trying to find a deal or develope my own. This is on the fastback. I still can't decide what to do with the coupe.
