High 13's Possible?
Hey everyone. Just curious as to What I would need in addition to what is listed in my mod list, that would get me a 13 second time slip? (high 13's) What would u guys do next. I was thinking a 2400 torque converter? what would u guys do. I don't really wanna use any juice either.

A converter along with the drag radials will go a long way to improving your e.t. In addition to the converter, I would also change the exhaust. The most improtant piece in the exhaust is the h-pipe. The stock catalitic converters are very restrictive. I would look into an off-road h-pipe if you don't have to worry about emissions. If you have to comply with emissions, I would get a h-pipe with cats. There are a ton of exhaust companies out there so take your pick.
These things will get you close to a high 13. With a good 60 ft time, you might see a 13.9. The only way to find out is to go to the track and run it. FYI: I had an AOD GT (91) with just a converter and gears (3.73). It went 14.6-14.7 but with a crappy 2.2 60 ft time. If you can manage a 1.8-1.9 60' with the drag radials you will be close to that high 13 timeslip. Good luck! |
Pull your front swaybar, and bump the timing, maybe run a short belt.

Forgot to mention something...

It's hard to estimate what you may run if you don't say what your previous best was. I would say that the stall and d/r's will help tremendously, the biggest problem you have is probably weight, other than the aod. It's gonna take more hp to get that pig down the track. You could use a 65mm tb, headers, an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, a taller gear (like a 4:10), and very aggressive driving. With all that I would think your a lock for high 13's. A guy in my club just ran a 14.6 with a bone stock aod hatch on radials yesterday, he was walking around afterward like he just got laid for the first time:D |
Well that means it will be harder, heavy vert aods are hard to make fast, but of course you can hit 13's, I know I could, one thing that helped me hit 13.9 on street tires was an electric fan, i think my clutchfan was failing, but i really dropped like 2 tenths and gained 3 mph....just a thought. good luck

thanx guys!

Chrislx, i think you mean steeper gears, and a 65mm tb wont really help, unless you get an aftermarket intake, I bought the black magic fan, specifically for the 5.0, you can buy a cheap one from autozone, but i want reliability, and mine has been great, no problems......good luck, also some 1.7 rockers might help you out, im about to install some, i will let you know what kind of e.t i gain, im looking to trap 101 mph with a fpr and 1.7 rock's....

Realisticly
Look at my sig. with all the crap I got I pulled a 13.8 on the G-tech.....The track has been rained out 2 weeks in a row maybe this saturday I will get some track times.

Yea...that was me...14.66@96 on a street tire..."STOCK"..Timing is the key...and shifting!!! I am going to try for low 14's next time out...Track Sucked!!! Car ran that pass without a belt at all..Went 14.88@94 with the stock belt w/ A/C & smog pump.

OUTPLAYN,
Did you go race at Great Lakes Dragaway? |
sorry chris, I just though taller meant higher (numerically lower)...
anyway, I have been told a tb and maf is a waste on a stock motor, but im glad to hear it's not, because i want a new tb myself, my friend has a 65 mm tb and I can stick my finger in the tb, and feel the ridge on the plennum inlet, which is only 60mm? if anything that would create a turbulence that could kill power? |
Here's what I had when I got into the 13's for the first time when it was still an AOD car, 13.99 as a matter of fact.
full exhaust, cheap tires, cheap stall converter (stalled at like 1800), 65mm TB, speed density still, ram air, subframes, control arms, 3.73's, pulley's. I think thats pretty much it. Go for a PI stallion converter, they are expensive but WELL worth it. You may also want to think about 4.10's good luck, -Drew |
Stranger...Nope...I went to Byron...the track was very bad...looked like a motocross track when we left..I am hoping to get it down in the lower 14's while being stock..
I dont live far from Byron at all.. I hope to go on Sat again!!! |
