Bad Fuel Pump????? Help, Please....
I need help! Here is the scenario. I'm heading to the NMRA show in Reynolds and the car is doing fine. I hit some traffic, slow down, and the car stalls out. I re-start it.....It goes about 50 feet and dies again. It feels like I'm out of gas, but I know I'm not.
I go to the gas station and fill the tank with about 1 gallon of 93 octane (all I use), and the car starts and drives, but it still feels a bit rough during acceleration. I continue down to reynolds without much problem. When I get off at my exit, the car stalls again, but does re-start. I manage to check into the hotel for the night. The next AM, it starts and makes it to the show. When we are leaving, we get on the road, and the first time I have to slow down after driving about 30 miles, it stalls again, so we put another gallon in and it does ok. The point is, when the tank is FULL, I can drive about the equivelent of 6-7 gallons worth, and then the problem starts. When I add some gas, it goes OK, but then shortly dies again. Does this sound like a bad fuel pump or what? Please give me your input, so I can put this issue to rest. THANKS A TON! |
Definately sounds like the fuel pump..Had a similar problem.. Car would stall 'usually' in hot weather when I had less than a half tank of gas. My prob. was worse than yours in that sometimes it would take an hour before I could restart..(Happened once on the Williamsburg bridge on the way into NYC!)..Replaced my pump and haven't had the problem since.

Yeah, change the pump, fuel filter and give it some injector cleaner while your at it. Let us know.

It's not the amount of gas that's in the tank that allows the car to run. Basically, the pump is an electric motor. As it heats up it will shut down. If you give it enough time to cool off it will run again, but only until it heats up again. I agree with the previous posts, change your pump, filter and pressure regulator if you're still using the stock one. Good luck!!

That also sounds like a bad TFI module, but usually thet just quit and thats it, also you say when you slow down it acts up, could it be a combo of underdrives and a bad alternator? Just a guess there, if a 5.0 see's less than 9 volts it will shut off.
