Clutch Sinker

I am looking to buy a 5.0 5sp in the Sacramento area. I am going to look at one that has 83,000 original miles. The guy said that every once in a while it pops out of reverse. He replaced the clutch but it still happened every once in a while. He took it to a mechanic and was told that the clutch sinkers needed to be replaced. He is asking $3,000. My question is how hard would it be to replace the sinkers? And how much money would it cost?

First, im assuming he meant to say the syncros, and you could probably do it yourself but personally im not a big fan of working on tranny's. As for the 3000 to fix it, you can buy a new Viper 6 spd for you car for that much. A super duty world class T5 is around 1200 american. So if hes gonna charge you 3000 just buy a new tranny.

I'm gonna guess you meant the guy was asking $3000 for the car, and that sounds like a pretty good deal to me. If the car is in good shape, go for it. The synchros can be a pain, but you can get that trans rebuilt or buy another rebuilt for around $6-$800, if you look around. It's a little over a grand for a brand new heavy duty T5 (world class or Z).
