Autometer Vaccum Pressure Guage...Help
 

In the instructions for connecting the guage it says to "Connect line to pressure port on engine by using 1/8" adapter and T-Fitting". My question is....Where is the best place to splice into? Has anyone installed one of these, and if so, please be as specific as you can with the location of the vaccum line, since they all look the same to me! Thanks in advance.

I've been pulling my hair out for about an hour now, and I'm no closer than I was before (just balder!).

Just put it on the Manifold any o where you can all by its self is the best way to do it tho.

I'm not sure what type of intake you have, but I have a GT-40. With the GT-40 there are a couple plugs under the upper intake on the drivers side that you can hook into. I just purchased a brass 90* fitting from Home Depot and used the crush fitting supplied with the gauge.

Make sure that when you are tightening down the crush fitting to go finger tight and then a 1/4 to 1/2 turn after that. Anymore than that will splice the nylon tubing, ruin the crush fitting and you'll have to do it all over again. Just my advice.

Thanks for the replies. I have a stock intake still on the car, and last night I checked every vaccum hose going into the manifold (and out). All of the lines are larger than the T-fitting supplied by Autometer, which leads me to believe that I am looking at the wrong lines. If anyone knows the exact location of the line, that would be helpful.. Thanks a bunch!

The stock intake should have a plug or two as well.

Do this:

Remove the upper intake, flip it upside down and then you will see the plug that I am talking about. Remove one and purchase a fitting for it (as describer earlier). You will probably need an allen wrench to remove it (if memeory serves correctly).

Don't look for an existing vacuum line to hook it up to. Unless you want to do some sort of T-fitting adapter. However, that will require splicing into existing lines - something I wouldn't want to mess with.

I just ran mine to an unused port on the vac tree (on the driver side firewall). It was covered with a samll rubber plug. just get a short length of rubber tubing that the nylon line will fit snug in, and slide the nylon tube into that, and shove the other end of the rubber tube over the open vac port.

It is my understanding that the vacuum at the tree is the same as in the intake, is the same as anywhere else you would read it...

Exactly. Its kinda like electricity, its the same at all locations.
Put in on the log in the B/R location...

Why Autometer couldn't just tell me that is baffling, but thanks alot for the advice to just plug in at the tree. The guage works fine now!

Next question.....Where's the best place to splice into for power to the lights on the guages? ;)

I wired all my autometers into the fuse for the dashboard lights. That way, when I turn on my parking or headlights, the gauges light up.
