Starter won't Disengage!!
 

I have an 88 LX 5.0. My starter will not disengage even when the key is out of the ignition. I had to disconnect the battery to make it stop. The starter is on there tight and is not loose. What could be the problem if its not in the starter? Could it be the Selenoid? other electrical!? Please help! I need to get her running again!

same thing happened to my 86, just replace the starter...its easy!

sounds like "starter run-on". When did you install this starter? Is it new or has it been on the car for a while?

hit the starter solenoid on the drivers side fender to make it stop and replace it!! Doesn't it suck!!!!???

The starter solennoid has gone bad and doesn't produce enough power to pull the starter gear back from the fly wheel. Like HoodStrype said, just buy a new starter. Since your car is an '88 it's time for a new one anyway. They aren't that expensive and they are easy to install.

Like I always say, sounds like a great time for an upgrade, you should go with the mini starter, they are durable, light weight, and just as easy to install. It will be worth the money.

Ever try to start a car with a pair of screwdrivers, and get a killer spark show while doing it? Ever happen to notice the "weld" marks on the screwdrivers afterwards? That's what ends up happening inside the solenoid. Just like the screwdrivers, the disc inside the solenoid can start to "stick" to the posts inside. This is common with older solenoids, and requires replacement. A quick fix until then is to rap the solenoid with the handle of a large screwdriver each time it sticks.
