Size of shorty headers?

Ok, I understand the equal v.s. unequal length issue as far as scaveging (spelling?) goes, which is better, inch and a half, or inch and five eights? and most importantly WHY?

I'm talking on a heavily bolt-on 5.0, but still with stock heads,cam,intake. 3.73 gears.

I saw 1 and ½ if you are going to leave it as it is now. Otherwise I saw go 1 5/8.

Thanks,

1 1/2 headers would be better cause they match the ports on your stock heads and the smaller tubes will maintain your torque while increasing HP.

1 5/8 headers are larger than the ports on your heads wich reduces the velocity of the exhaust gases leaving out reducing your low end torque. Stock heads are not capable of making use of the extra air flow capacity that 1 5/8 headers provide and would probably lose HP over the stock headers.

That being said my 1 5/8 equal length headers that I have on my car are overkill but I will be able to take advantage of there flowing capacity when I get my nitrous.

dark 5.0 if you are going to leave your car as is go with the 1.5" headers, if you plan on modifying it in the future with heads and intake,....... Then go with the 1 5/8" headers. But don't but 1.5" headers now and then go buy 1 5/8" headers later when you modify it. go ahead and get the 1 5/8 headers now and that way you will not have to worry about that extra cost when you eventually do the heads and intake.

I used the 1-1/2" ones for a LOOOOONG time, before I outgrew them.
GO with smaller, you will gain more torque. I know I dynoed mine mostly stock, and people were impressed with 237rwhp on stock motor with a few bolt-ons.
