Quickest Stocker you know

I have run a best of 12.82 @ 104mph with bone stock heads, cam, and intake, with a lot of bolt-ons and slicks. In my area that is top dawg as far as a stocker. I've worked hard for this, am I fast for a stocker or no?

Coupe5oh 04-11-2002 04:07 PM

How are you getting 104 with unported heads? I just found out my car weighs 3120 with me in it, and some tools, thats why my car is a quick stocker, well i say its quick, not 12.80 quick, i feel with some better headers, and 1.7 rr's i could hit 13.3 with slicks.

and with some decent grs and a hard launch on real slicks, not e.t. streets i think i can get a 13.2 out in some good weather, last night my car ran crappy:(

gtsr515 04-11-2002 04:21 PM

Coupe5oh, well, I don't know exactly how I'm getting 104mph out of unported heads, I've always looked at it in a TOTAL PACKAGE view point, and to me E.T is what matters, MPH is, as you know only indicative of horsepower. I'm a drag racer, getting to the finish line first is my only goal. 13.20's are easily achieved in hot/sticky weather for me.

Looking at your spec's, I offer the following advice in true sportsmanship.

Auto or Manual I knock the 3.27's.
160 stat is open constantly, tricking puter rich.
10" tires, too much, too heavy, 8.5 is plenty.
I run 1.6's on the intake side, 1.7's on the exhaust, this keeps up velocity in the valve workings, Ford's DO NOT LACK intake speed or duration, ONLY exhaust, a common mistake.

Stang Runner 04-11-2002 04:57 PM

I have heard about the 160 being open all the time I have a 160 And it Dont hardly open all the timewhen I am moving I am not Sure it every really opens Stays about 140-150 when Moving thats using the stock Gauge not sure how good that is but the frist Mark is where it stays Will be getting AutoMetter soon

Five0 04-11-2002 05:04 PM

The fastest I ever got in a stocker was a 13.4 @105mph in an 88 gt on street tires. I have no idea what I could have done with some traction.

It had the stock intake and stock heads but the intake was heavly ported and the heads were mildly ported on the exhaust side. 3.55 gears, chip, race pulley, dynomax mufflers, gutted cats, k&n, and tractoin bars. No a/c or smog.

The best 60 ft was a 1.9? but the norm was around a low 2.0.

Coupe5oh 04-11-2002 06:04 PM

Well the 195 stat was way too warm, my car would be sluggish on the track, i would have to allow 1-2 hr cool down times, the 160 does run a bit rich, but you want to be a little rich, rather lean at wot? It makes more power, your right these tires are heavy, but they do not make an 8.5 e.t. street, just a real slick, in which im gonna get for my old rims, i know a big problem is the gears, but all in all, my car runs good for a higway running daily driver....

about the 1.6 on intk, and 1.7 on exhaust, i never heard of that, although i can see how it would work, did you have to buy two sets of rockers? $$$:(

How much does your car weigh with you in it? That is an incredible ET for stock heads, intake and cam. Your car must be very light. My car weighs 3410 with me in it, I have every bolt on known to man an explorer intake and the most worked over set of E7's ive ever seen. and I think I am at a 13.6-13.7 @3000ft on drag radials.....I live in the desert and the track has been rained out for 2 weeks...."go figure" Maybe this saturday night it wont rain and I can get some track times .

Thats not "STOCK"....thats modified!!! Lets talk ...no work done the heads or intake, TB, mass air, roller rockers, or cam..??? lets hear about that.

Exactly That's one of the reasons a good set of long tubes can really help out.

Still 12.80's @ 104 is hard to believe out of stock heads (untouched), cam, intake, etc. Just my opinion, not flaming.

BONE STOCK.

What year and make? just asking:confused:

DRASTiK 04-12-2002 09:54 AM

best I ever did with untouched heads, intake, cam was 14.3@98 with a 2.2X 60ft.

Jeb_Bush_2000 04-12-2002 10:09 AM

Check the sig.

It was a total fluke. After I get my exhaust done, and with the cold-air kit and bumped timing, I'm betting I won't crack 14.5.

My 60ft was under 2 seconds, but I don't remember exactly what. I lost the damn timeslip. Probably a 1.9.

OUTPLAYN 04-12-2002 10:33 AM

Well...heres my story...92 lx nothing taken out of it!!!
List of Parts:
Tune-up with wires,Msd coil.just regular oil no tricks
Bumped timing
K&N
Pullies
X-pipe w/o cats...stock mufflers
Street tires--Yokahama's
Stock gearing

Thats it.....with belt on...14.88@95....belt off....14.66@96...track was very poor!!!....2.2 60ft

Oh ya...car weights in at 3440 w/ me {170}

Jeb_Bush_2000 04-12-2002 10:45 AM

"belt off"? You took your serpentine belt off?

OUTPLAYN 04-12-2002 10:59 AM

Yes I did...just for the run...need to bring it with and the tool..yes one tool to put it back on..after the run...And it will lower your time!!!!

with the belt on...it runs through all the norm plus A/C and smog pump....sucks the power right out!!!

Okay guy's here's the 12.82 @ 104 package, this is no joke, I am not lying or twisting facts whatsoever, This was a single best pass, with consistant 12.90's in the fall, and it went 13 "teens" in the Summer.

1993 Hatch 5-speed, full interior w/ A/C.
3440 lbs with me, one 90lb. bag of concrete in the rear.
(Had to sneak the bag in at last minute and cover it at the track)
12" K&N, not in the wheel well.
73mm C&L (19lber's still)
Speed density inlet tube
65mm T.B., 67mm egr spacer (home port)
March pullies
Hurst shifter
BONE STOCK UNTOUCHED HEADS, CAM, INTAKE
1.6 RR's on intake, 1.7 RR's on the exhaust.
1 & 5/8" Long tubes
2 & 1/2" H-pipe
2 Chamber flows dumped
Subframe connectors
Aluminum driveshaft
3.73 gears
Stock Trac-lok
H.D uppers
Southside lowers (yuk!)
26 X 8.5 M.T. slicks

AT THE TRACK

Quarter tank 87 octane, what! 87!, yes, not 89 or 93
Remove front sway bar (never remove the rear one, untill 11's)
Short belt
Engine torque strap
March race crank pulley
Battery in the rear
90 - 180 lbs. concrete in the rear

This car was in always an excellent state of tune, I just drive well, and pulled off a great pass, thats it. YOU CAN TOO!!!!!!!!

Jeb_Bush_2000 04-12-2002 01:55 PM

OUTPLAYN: You could probably run even faster than that if you brought a short belt. An EFI car kind of needs an alternator.

Thats funny my dad was saying he was going to put concrete in his trunk so he could pull the front wheels.....I thought he was kidding maybe he wasnt:D

I believe you.....Very impressive:cool: I might try the cement thing at the track tomorrow night.

I had been thinking of that very same idea of putting 1.6 rr on the intake and 1.7 on the exhaust. Kinda got it from the edelbrock camshaft profiles. I wonder what mine will run with this mild set up I'm building.

ported and polished upper and lower intake opened to 67mm
ported and gasket matched e7 heads
full length 1 5/8 headers
65 mm tb
no accesories just alternator and pump
cold air intake set up
73 mm MA
windage tray
crank scraper
5 speed
maybe a 3.80 rear
1.7 rr unless I can find someone with 1.6'rs that wants to do a half trade.
Its all going into the fastback
should be interesting let me know what you guys think
