what would u do with 3 GRAND?????

i am considering buying a new motor for my stang. mine leaks a lot of oil from the rear main seal i think. I was looking at the 302 gt 40's. Some say they have about 270 hp for 2800 and others are 3200 for 345 hp! is this stupid to do, or should i buy heads and a cam shaft ? how much faster would it be with the new motors? I have a person who can install a motor for 450 is that good? please help, i am looking to do something very soon. i plan on spending about 3 grand!:(

The rear main seal leak isn't that big of a deal. Hardest thing is just getting to it. It is actually a common thing to happen on 5ohs.

First off, how many miles does your engine/car have on it? I personally like to stick with the original engine, but if yours is about to go, then of course you should get a new one. So it kind of depends.

If you were to spend that much, definately go with the one for 3200 dollars. You would spend way more than 400 to get the additional 75 horses.

Also, how many miles would you like to get out of this engine? Also, would the car be a daily driver or more like a weekend warrior?

Thanks,

By the way...I wouldn't consider that slow (14.2) for what you have and also considering it is a convertible.

IT has 85000 miles on it (hard miles). There is also a ticking noise coming from the motor. No big deal, I think it is a lifter or something (Im not too knowledgable about motors). Anyways, it would pretty much be a daily driver car during the summers. Put away during NY winters. Would a new motor bring me in the mid 13's or low 13's? I have no clue. Also, the suspension is totally stock. What about the 450 to install- expensive or inexpensive? Im assuming inexpensive. Thanks for all replies!:D

If it is 345 rwhp, that should be mid 13s I think. Weight and traction would be an issue here, but should be capable of that pretty easily I think.

How is your tranmission? Cause that much power will rip apart a stock T5 pretty fast on hard driving. Just something to consider.

i have a king cobra clutch (heavy duty) installed about 2-3 years ago. When he did that, he shaved down the synchros (I think) so it wouldn't grind into 3rd a as much. Do you think I would be better off doin things such as heads, cam etc.. or a super charger? The 14.2 is on street tires and hitting every gear almost perfectly.

or get the oil leak fixed? are there tests they can do to see how strong/weak a motor is?

Rear Main Seal

I am having the same problem with my seal. It's leaking...but nothing major, Just becomes a problem with the spots, etc. I got a quote from AAMCO, and they said they would hafto pull the tranny out, and replace the seal. The seal is really cheap, like..$15-20? But the major part is the labor. He actually quoted me at $250 for the whole thing, which I didn't think was that bad at all. And he said with them buying the seal it would have a warranty on it, which has a plus side.

looks like i will just get the main seal fixed and go from there. maybe new heads and a cam shaft. I would save some money too! Thanks for replies.

rebuild it/upgrade

wait till 3com corp. hits about 5.70, drop 3000 into it, it usually bounces back to the 6 and change area, sell it. do that a few times, and if you lucky pocket 3K and spend the 3k you've made on parts :)

wish it was that easy........

seriously, 3k, rebuild the short block, some dart Jr's or Jr aluminums, some exhaust work some fuel work. and rear gear. Should wake thing up a bit, oh, a cam too
