is it just me, or does there seem to be less mods/parts available for 98 model gt's? there is always a gap between the 93-97 models, then 99-current models....it can be a little frustrating

I got a 96 but I have noticed that and I think that ford made some kind of change on the Mustang for 98. Remember 98 made 225 hp while the 96-97 made only 215. Probably has somethign to do with that.

i am just getting back into mustangs after about a 10 year hiatus...i knew that when they went to the mod 4.6 they dropped to 215 hp, but wasnt aware that in 98 they went back to the 225. its seems to be more in the exhaust / cats / h pipe / header area, not so much as the suspension aspect of things. Mostly the fun stuff **HORSEPOWER**

I have noticed that too.. The parts list usually reads.

94-95 --Ok Price
96-97 -- Ok Price
98 -- Bend Over while we stick it to you
99-01 Ok Price

When ever I find parts for my car, the 98, seems to cost about 20-30% more, and it's the only year that seems to show up by itself. Whatever they did to gain the extra 10HP over the 96-97 most have done something. Maybe it's just a sick joke for those of us sitting on the border of two body styles and didn't wait for th 99's.....

you are absolutely right with the price thing...i am going to do some serious research on this to find out what mechanical differences between the 97-98 are.

Yeah very thing for the '98's including the cars themselves are too expensive. The '98's had some problems and recalls too awhile back. The differences between the two are:
-Hotter EEC tune
-Slightly Different Exhaust
-Fuel System
-Center Console is different
-No clock pod (Boo! Bring it back Ford!)
-Premium wheels have a slightly different finish

These are pretty small differences but I'm still not quite sure why '98's are soooo expensive.

...or how about fit...? I see too many ads that say "no modifications necessary... '98 may need additional holes drilled"... like for strut tower braces and such...

Yeah, tell me about it...... I noticed on mine I have the marks on the strut tower for where the brace should bolt. They have to be punched then tapped, but I don't think that would be too hard. I just don't see why they didn't punch them from the factory, I guess for stability reasons and not to have 5 holes in the strut tower.....

The fuel system is probably the bigest change from 97 to 98. The 98 has a returnless fuel system. This means that rather than the fuel regulator just rerouting the fuel back to the tank, the computer must control part of this function. But still, this would only affect supercharger kits I would think (FMU wont work). Technically, I would think everything that would work on a 97 would work on a 98. Maybe they just like to pick on you 98 guys?

I thought the returnless fuel system was introduced in 99. I noticed on my fuel rails when I changed out my intake that I have two fuel lines connecting to the passenger side fuel rail, then of course the front and rear tips of the rails have cross overs to feed the other side. I also noticed that I have a large cylindrical device where one of the fuel lines meets on the rail, it has what appears to be some sort of screw in the middle and a vaccuum port on the side. I also see what appears to be a directional check valve on the other line. I am not saying that I am disagreeing with you, I am just curious as to why I have two lines coming in to the system on one side. Any ideas, I am still not totally used to my GT yet...

You are right about the fuel system 98SteedaGT. For some reason I was thinking it was 98. Oh well, I guess that has nothing to do with the cost of parts.

Maybe the vendors get away with charging more for 98 parts because they saw Ford get away with charging more for a 98 car while geting rid of the dash clock....who knows. I like the clock! But, 98 rims were beter, so its probably a wash. :confused:

There is a cool web site I found and printed out. Use your search engine and look up " 1998 Ford Mustang Specifications". It will give you the entire specs on the 98 it also shows the difference between the 97/97 and the 98 models. It has Everything you can think of. Check it out!
