Aod Shift Kit
Well I screwed up this time I ordered my shift kit from Holcomb and thought I was getting the Bauman kit but I clicked on the wrong one and ordered the B&M kit.Should I take it back and get the Bauman or use the B&M??Anyone here using the B&M?
|
The B&M is the biggest waste of money and time you will ever spend. so take it back
I had one in mine when it was still an AOD and it sucked. Then when I had it rebuilt, the tranny guy made his own shift kit for it and it shifted 10 times better and harder than the B&M ever did. If i was to do it again, I'd just get a lentech valve body,or if i was on more of a budget, then i'd get a trans-go shiftkit hope this helps, -Drew |
transgo?
I was thinking about the transgo kit at one time and then I found Baumans website and thought I would try theirs.I will probally just trade it in on the Bauman since it is the same price.I am planning on buying a Lentech or Performance Automatic aod next year if uncle sam is nice to me lol!But I just wanted something better for the meantime,it chirps the tires on the 1-2-1 wot shift now but all the shifts are sluggish under part throttle.
|
I got the TransGo for about $100, and I think it was a great improvement for the money. It shifts real firm and chirpped the hell outta my tires...(maybe the tires were just getting to old...lol) peace

a servo
Where can i buy the a- servo or what is the part# form uncle henry?
|
I have used B&M shift kits in the past, always with great results. I dont know why so many people bad mouth them. They may not be the best, but they certainly improved the shifts drastically every time I used one.
You can get the "A" servo piston at a ford dealer. Baumann has the part numbers on thier website. |
a servo part #'s
Just for future reference guys the a servo part#'s were in the baumann eng. instructions
e9sz-7f200-a --------- a servo piston e9sz-7d027-a -------- a servo cover e9sz-7f201-a --------- a servo returm spring e9sz-7d024-a -------- piston seal e0az-7d026-a -------- cover seal (two required,fits all servos) |
Also, you can have the "A" parts without those exact same part numbers, as I have found in my tranny. I have the "A" piston and "A" cover, but the part numbers vary slightly from those listed.

Sorry to say but the B&M shiftkits SUCK BAD! I had the same thing happen i had my tranny rebuilt and told the guy i wanted a baumunn and the idiot ordered a B&M... i swear it's almost softer than stock on full throttle shifts....
|
Ill say it again, the B&M shift kits I used were great. I think the problem is you guys arent installing the kits yourself.
There are differnt settings of firmness when you install the kit, and apparantly your mechanic installed the "soft" setting. i see no other explanation. I have used the regular "shift kit", and the "trans pack" in AOD's, as well as TH350's and 2004r's, all with good results. |
I hate B&M they are cheap crap!!!. My brother used to have a 88 5.0. He installed a B&M kit, the over the next 4 days the shifts got harder and harder, until on the last timewhen it shifted 3rd ungodly hard(enough to break the seat rail). Lets just say the rebuild on the tranny far out weighted the cost of the B&M kit.
|
Just because your brother had problems with his doesnt make them crap. Sounds like he installed it incorrectly to have problems like that.
The shift kits arent rocket science. Just a few springs and spacers, along with some valve body plate modifications to make the shifts firmer. The B&M kit does exactly what its supossed to do. Anybody who got "softer" shifts after the install, didnt do it right. Anybody who exploded thier tranny after the install didnt do it right. I also burnt up an AOD after a B&M shift kit install, but it wasnt the shift kits fault. After re-inspection, I installed one of the valve incorrectly in the valvebody. I suspect this to be the case with some of the other people having problems. |
aod kit installed (and new stang in stable)
Well I installed the kit today all but putting the valvebody back in the trans.I was getting ready to put it back in when my wife returned from town with the filter and trans. fluid and started telling me about this stang she saw for sale on the way home.So we went to take a look,it was a88 gt 5spd with a clean interior and a lil body damage(parking lot dings). The guy was asking $3600 for it so I offered him $3000 and he took it !I came home and got the $$$$$ and now I have another stang!Actually it will be my wifes but it will be in my stable lol!The shift kit was pretty lengthy but informative I hope it shifts good!

i decided to go with the lentch v-body, but they talk about drilling holes in the case or something. Kind of makes me nervous
|
The lentech has those wires coming out of it for the OD delete switch. I guess you have to drill holes for that, to route the wires?
