Just got back from Colorado - WOW!
 

My wife and I went to Colorado Springs to see the sights and I was totally amazed at how beautiful it was. Anyone who lives near Colorado that hasn't been there yet should really try to go. Save Pike's Peak for last because it makes everything else look almost boring. And drive up if you can. It's a 19 mile drive up the mountain, and probably the scariest drive you'll ever take in 1st and 2nd gear (no guard rails), but well worth it.

Cave of the Winds was OK. The best part about it was driving up this small mountain to get to it with roads twisting and turning like a tight road course. The Kia Optima took it pretty well actually.

We went to the Royal Gorge the next day and I walked out onto the World's highest suspension bridge in winds gusting so hard they would knock you down if you wasn't holding on. All the while the bridge is bouncing and twisting around under your feet. What a trip!

I hope to have some pics on the PC pretty soon to show everyone.

Any Stangers living in the Colorado Springs area? I saw a few, but mostly saw a bunch of Ricers. I envy anyone living in Colorado for the beautiful country you have there, but you can keep the heat!

Sounds like fun. I now realize that I need a vacation. I don't think that you could get me on that bridge though.

I live about 2 hours north of Colorado Springs. Pikes Peak is cool. They have a race up that road every year. Last year a guy died cause he went off the road and a tree went through his drivers side window.

I went to the Royal George bridge when I was about 10, it scared the crap out of me.

A guy at the gift shop half-way up the mountain was telling me about the guy dying last year. I was watching the video they had playing showing some race footage from a couple years ago and noticed a couple Mustangs flying around the curves. It said one of them was the previous year's champion. I thought that was kind of cool :D

I forgot to mention that Garden of the Gods was really cool as well. Some of the most awesome looking scenery I have ever seen.

I was wondering... why do they burn the fields out that way? We saw miles and miles of grassy fields being burnt off. It was pretty amazing to see that much land charred from fire. I think most of that was actually in Kansas though.

There have been quite a few fires up here too. Most the time the farmers burn the ditches to clear them out for irrigating. This year it has been so dry the farmers manage to catch the fields on fire and trees and whatever is close by when they burn the ditches. I don't think they are doing it on purpose. I have already seen to out of control ditch fires where the fire department was called because the fire burned right up to natural gas tanks. That's usually not a good thing.
