My 60' Is Killing Me.... How To Get It Down?!?
Ok, here is 2 timeslips, the 1st one is the one from last year, and the 2nd is the best from tonight.
Best Ever R/T....866 60.....2.240 330...6.190 1/8....9.477 MPH..74.61 1000.12.309 1/4...14.691 MPH..94.70 BEST TONIGHT R/T....1.121 60.....2.463 330...6.631 1/8....9.955 MPH..73.21 1000.12.792 1/4...15.140 MPH..96.67 The thing i dont understand, is how could i gain mph and loose et? is it all because of traction, or is it something else??? next week, im gona run on 91, and bump the timing to 14*. i ran 25psi in the rear tires, but im not sure what they should be at for the track? Im going to check the timing right now, so i will post what it is at, but i would think it is at 10* or so. |
Ok, timing is at 10*, and i definatly need some 3.73 gears.
would pulling the sway bar help my 60ft? what tire pressure should i run? running 96mph, shouldnt that mean im faster now? i will run 91-94 octane, and 14* timing next week, so what mph could i look forward to? i had like 3/4 tank of 87 octane gas in the car, so i thought that would help the traction, but it didnt. should i run 1/4 tank of 91 next time? thanks for any help, and if you have a suggestion, please post back. |
How can you say "something is definately wrong with my car" based on two time slips that are similar enough and dont show anything unusual?
Its all right there in your 60 ft. times, plain as day. A .2 improvement in 60 ft. time equates to a .4 improvement in ET. Relax....... There are a lot of reasons for gaining MPH and losing ET. Drag racing is more involved than just mashing the gas pedal down. The first thing that jumps out when your MPH is higher than your ET would normally indicate is 60 ft. times. Gas octane, tire pressure, timing, how full your tank is, etc...are all variables that could change your time slightly, and arent worth worrying about unless your after the absolute quickest time your car can do with you driving. Then you just have to experiment. Generally less gas is better (lighter), tire pressure depends (are you running slicks)? If not, then your really wasting your time, as you wont see ideal results without traction out of the hole as a starting point. |
Your reaction time has alot to say. .255 is a big difference. I don't think there's anything wrong with the car just the driving of it. You've got the speed there just get the rest to follow suite. I'm sure you'll get the times your looking for if you do a few more runs. I've run better times with the tires at required pressure than with them at lower pressure. Good Luck!

Reaction time has nothing to do with ET.......Your 60ft time sux @ss if you get that 60ft down to a 1.9...You could hit a 14.3-14.4 easy.
I dont see the problem if you ask me its time for some drag radials or slicks. Pull your front swaybar....get subframes...and get drag radials and you will have much more fun at the track. Good luck later, |
ok, i nowsee something is not wrong with the car, and i will try driving it a little better.
would subframes, and pulling the front sway bar help, without drag radials? i think the no traction thing was partly the track, because playing around on the street, i can get it to hook up and go, unlike last night. i think i only got 1 run where the sun was still in the sky, so the track could have been part of it. will 14* timing from 10 help my mph a bit? |

Slicks, or drag radials. Traction is the name of the game. None of this street tire bullshit, if you want to go faster.
|
If you get 3:73's and do not do anything about traction your 60' times will get WORSE, not better. You need to address the suspension immediately. You need to consider shocks, struts, control arms, springs, and tires if you want to make a dent in your times. If you are spinning bad you also need to address your launching technique as well.
|
try driving and feathering the clutch with treet tires not launch it you cant lauch street tires it will take you trying to get it down but I am getting 2.0 60ft with 255 bfg non dragrad. and I have little sup. work and stock gears(for now) the timing will help but bring the timing light with you to the track that way you can diff. timing setting to fing the bst for your car cause not all cars work the best with the same timing mine likes 15

Thats just wonderful except for one thing: 2.0 60 ft. times suck. |
i am going to pull my front sway bar tomorrow, and see if that helps
what is a good 60ft on stock size radials then... Mach1??? whjat do you get on radials??? |

2.0 is a decent time for street tires, I agree. However, the topic of this post was something like "how can I improve my 60 ft. times".
The answer is slicks. Isnt he already running 2.0 60 ft. times? Ok, after looking back to the first post, I see his 60. ft. times were 2.2 and a 2.4, so yeah, he could improve them to 2.0 and it will help him, but in the big scheme of things, if your really after good ET's, you need slicks, and 2.0 60 ft. times are considered poor. |
I'll tell you what Bow Tie, I ran on slicks for the first time Saturday and I'm ready to dump my D/R's, I went from a 2.0 on the D/R's to a 1.78 on the slicks without even launching too hard. I was scared to run them before but now I'm hooked(:D ) and hooking. Drag radial might help you out but if you really want to hook get a set of slicks on a set of 10 holes or something. There's a guy in my local club in a 90 notch with a stock longblock and gears, Holley Systemax II intake and full 3" exhaust who ran a 13.3 on saturday with slicks. The guys car is a freak, but the slicks are definitely getting him there. I wish i had gone to them a long time ago. 13's are definitely in reach if you are running slicks.
|
slicks are too damn expensive, if they will only last me a year or so... it is 600 bucks for the bfg drag radials, and about the same for et streets.
will drag radials last me a couple years? i need at least 3 years of use(im poor :() and i dont see slicks lasting that long. i just use them on the fridy night of every week from april to october, and i would probably pt them on at the track, not drive there with them on, unless i was going to go for a spin on thestreet. |
WOW! YOU REALLY GET RAPED ON PRICES IN CANADA THAT BAD? SLICKS HERE ARE $300 A SET FOR SOME KILLER ONES.
|
Slicks will last you more than one year I would think. As long as your not one of those idiots who does a huge burnout and blows smoke for 10 minutes, entirely unnecesary and a waste of rubber.
Just spin them a couple times to warm them up, and launch. Dont try to impress your freinds by burning rubber for no reason. I would think a set of slicks used once a week at the track would last you at least 2 years, maybe three. They have pretty thick tread on them when new. |
Bow Tie Eater,
Definitely get some sub's and slicks. I have heard that pulling the sway bar will drop your e.t. about 1-2 tenths. And DEFINITELY bump up the timing to around 15 degrees initial and use 91-93 octane gas(1/4 tank or less). My g/f's cousin is giving me some used slicks and 4 15" Mustang rims to drop my pathetic 2.4 60''s. Yep I am in the same boat as you:D |
1BAD89,
$300 for a set??? I guess I have been looking in the wrong parts catalogs. Who do you know of that sells them that cheap? |
