Old motor resembles a grenade
I finally got around to pulling my 302 out of my car and prepping it for the 331. When I pulled it out I couldn't believe how bad it was. The timing cover is gone, the timing chain, the block at the front right has a chunk taken out, the first and second main webbing area has large chunks taken out, the oil pump broke into three diffrent pieces, the crank snapped in two at the front two cylinders, and the front two rods are bent up pretty good. Not to mention my oil pump shaft looks like a twizzler. This was a mid 13 second car on radials. I hit it with nitrous years ago, but it has spent the better part of it's life in the 13 second zone. I will post some pics as soon as I get the software installed. I bought a digital camera because I thought the motor being this destroyed was pretty cool, and wanted to share it with you guys. :D :D :D
I'll have them posted soon, -Chris |
I'm looking forward to seeing your carnage. Did the engine blow while you were racing?

Here's one of my car. It's rough right now, but it will soon be wearing 98' cobra rims.

I take it you weren't running a girdle? Although girdles do not really make the block any stronger, they do hold the two halves together and sometimes help to save the internals of the motor.

Do you mind if I post some of those on my website? I have a page titled "Ouch!!!", for just those kind of pictures. Below are two from one of the guys we raced with last year. He came down against the wall and wedged the tire so tightly that the engine went from 7500 rpms to zero in a fraction of a second. The end result was the crank snapped, and two rods, complete with their shared journal from the crank, ended up in the pan, while their pistons shattered out each side of the block. That's what happens when it's a direct drive between the engine and the rearend!
Let me know. Take care, -Chris http://homepage.mac.com/pkrwud/.Pict...ine1small.jpeg http://homepage.mac.com/pkrwud/.Pict...ods1small.jpeg |
These are truly horror pictures....  :(

AHHHHHH COOL. For some reason I love seeing theses kinda pics. Those are better than porn... ok maybe not but there still fun to look at. It wasn't turning real hard when it came apart? Have any idea on the cause, lost oil pressure, bad bearings etc etc?

Bad harmonic balancer. Everyone should do themselves a favor and buy a SFI balancer that wont come apart like the stock piece of junk. Unless you are looking for an excuse to build a new motor like I was.:D
