G/F car caught on fire today

My girlfriend had a '91 Beretta. She stalled at a redlight(tranny sticks in overdrive sometimes). She cranked it over twice but stalled everytime she put it in gear. She then noticed smoke coming from under the hood and it kept getting blacker and heavier!! No one would pull over and help her even after seeing flames from under the hood. Finally a kid pulled over witha cell phone and called 911. Two guys from a dealership nearby ran up with fire extinguishers and used two tanks to put it out. The Then two firetrucks rolled up and sprayed about 500 gallons of water for good measure. The bad thing is that we didn't have comprehensive coverage on it(lesson learned). The entire engine compartment is toast wiring harnesses and all. It would take more money than it's worth to get running again. It sucks because the body is in almost mint condition. You can't tell it'was in a fire without popping the hood. It would be a good car for someone with the time and money to replace everything under the hood but we are going to have to count our lose and junk it.
Time to go buy another car I guess. This time we are going to insure the hell out of it!!

Burnt Baretta

Sorry to hear of the loss; glad she was O.K. Cars can be replaced.

Comp coverage is cheap and as you now know, very helpful on these kinds of losses (fire, vandalism, hail, water damage, etc).
Don't go without it.

Is a Ford in your girlfriends future?

That really sucks about the Beretta. Typical GM...:p Just joking Chevy guys.

At least she wasn't injured and the interior didn't catch on fire. That really sucks about the car though. Sorry to hear that, man.

Good luck on getting a new car.:)

The ironic thing is that I still have both mustangs to use. She won't drive the '88 because it's stick and has no desire to learn how. My '82, she claims is too radical for her.
I guess another rmustang is out of the question.
I'll find a nice car for her. Even if it's not a mustang.
Thanks for the support guys

Maybe not having a car for a bit will change her mind on not wanting to learn how to drive a manual?

Best of luck on the car hunt, and glad to hear she is okay!

Believe me Unit, not having a car will NOT change her mind about driving stick. I've tried and tried to get her to learn how without any success.
It's a sore subject with her for some reason I don't understand.

Ouch! Very sorry to hear it man. Like everyone else said I'm glad she's ok. Too bad about the car.
