Smog pump removal

I'm removing my smog pump and was wondering what I need to do with the stub piece that comes off the Hpipe. pinch it and weld it ? What have any of you done? Thanks for any help.

I just pinched mine closed and I don't seem to have any problems. I say I pinched it closed, it was more like smash it closed. It's tough piece of pipe in close confines:p

Do you have an off road H-pipe? If not, don't do it. You'll clog your cats.

i pinched mine and welded it, i have a homeade h-pipe, i left the front cat housings there and hollowed them out and ran 21/2" pipe all the way to the mufflers, if you have one with cats i would do this(its a lot cheaper) mine cost $40.00 and with the front chambers there it makes the tone of the exhaust really low.

just a suggestion if you have the stock h-pipe

ill tell you what i did with my air pump instead of removing it, i took it apart and removed the pads that are on the inside(with an air chisel) so the middle part of the inside is still there and will rotate freely, but it just doesnt pump anything, now its kindof like an idler pulley, i figured it would be cheaper than buying a new belt and/or the air pump eliminator bracket

From what I read, the smog pump injects a small amount of air into the cats to aid with cleaning the air by means of a more complete burn. I called MAC and asked them if there was any problem with running the cats without the smog pump and they said no. I'm no expert, but I am pretty sure you are not gonna clog the cats by not using the smog pump, at least not any quicker than normal.
