11s with 306 n/a what gear ?
is any 1 run in the 11s with a 306 n/a if so what gear do i have
i have 3:55s and the best i can get is a 12.18 @112 do i need more gear |
i would say that you could use more gear i would go with 4.10's that could be too much gear though i dont think you want to be topping out before the end of the quarter. 373's work perfect in my car on the juice, i barely squeeze into the 11's, I HAVE GOODYEAR COMP T A 'S THOUGH,
|
If you go to 4.10's, you'll top out in 4th before you finish, unless you're running a 28" tire.
3.73's will have you trapping at about 5600rpm with 26" slicks. |
They do make a 3.90 as well now for the 8.8.
|
4.10's are a great choice. I ran 11.97 with 4.10's at 114.5 with the stock rev limiter so you won't top out (that was on a 26x8.5 slick. 4.30's are even better but I bumped my rev limiter up to 7000 when I went with the 4.30's. I liked the 4.30's on the street as well but I didn't see much highway driving. I just pulled my 4.30's out yesterday in favor of some 4.56's. I haven't seen anybody in S/W get into the 11's on 3.73's; just not enough kick out of the hole.
|
4.10's should shave quite a bit of time off then huh? i ran 11.98 with 3.73's, maybe ill try them
|
If you want to venture past redline into the fuel cutoff with 26" tires, you can do it on 4.10s. You'll probably trap somewhere between 6000-6100rpm.
From a redline point of view, you'll just run out of gear by a little. |
is it true that they make a 3.90 gear for the 8.8, if so maybe that will do the trick?
|
I would go with the 4.10's. I have 3.73's with a 28" tire and go 12.0's @ 112 on motor. It just does not get out of the hole like it should. Problem is that I run nitrous too, so 4.10's would leave me out of breath at the end of the track on the spray.
If I were staying N/A I would go with 4.10's. |
I have a 306 with top notch heads, custom cam, and fully ported upper and lower Holley, 5-speed, 4.56 gears, 26X10 slicks.
11.25 @ 118 The car makes 387 rwhp at 6500rpm's, I am going to 5.13's with 28" tires and heim joints in the rearend next, I believe there is more E.T there. Will be shifting at 6800 or so then.:) |
3.90 !!!!!!
Motivegear look there they make the 3.90
|
Going to 3,90's from 3.55's would be a waste of money, if you want to drag race seriously 4,10's are entry level, 3.55's ere designed for road racing, and for N/A cars they are usually the worst gear for draggin' causing you to shift 4th too close to the finish line.:) I'm sure I'll get slammed knocking 3.55's for drag racing, but 15 years of experience has proven 3.55's are not for drag racing.
|
I've got your back on that one gts!
|
my opinion~ 3.55's are a little doggy at the track, but 3.73's and 4.10's are the way to go, one of my buddies has an 89lx with a 460(514) and he was running 9.90's with a 3.73and a c6. (which has recently blown up) he would have too much gear with a 4.10, at least with his (stock type suspension) so i agree with you 355's are not for the strip but when it comes to 3.73's and 4.10's i think it all depends on the driver and the motor
|
i would never think of using anything less than a 3.73 on the strip unless i was turbo and needed the lower gearing..NA/NOS/supercharger go with 3.73-4.30..just get bigger tires the faster you go:D
|
I'm in the same boat.....confused whether to go w/ 3.73's or 4.10's (I've got 3.55's now too). According to Motivegear they don't make 3.90's for 8.8" rears. So.........will I top out too early in the 1/4 w/ 4.10's and will the car be SCREAMING on the highway at 80mph???
|
Well Motive advertises 3:90's in their ads and MM&FF did a write up on them awhile back;)
I run 3:73 and went a best of 11.80 @ 115mph, should go 117mph+ this year and hope for 11.40's or quicker when the rear goes in. I trap 5200rpms on 26" x 11.5" ET STREETS and launch at 5800-6000rpm. Plans to go either 4:30's and 4:56's and turn around 6400 through the trap, which will match my cam. That is something no one has brought up, it really depends on your combo as far as how much gear to run but you will be fine with either the 3:73's, 3:90's or 4:10's NA. Jeff how is this season going? Will you be up at Maple Grove? |
Rick, I'm running an F cam.....do you think I'll be OK w/ either 3.73, 3.90 ro 4.10?
|
Quote:
If you are NA I would go 4:10's or atleast 3:90's, if you have a blower you could go atleast 3:73's with no issue what so ever. |
Rick, I'm currently n/a, but will be going on the bottle next year (probably a 125 shot). I run mostly on the street...at the track about 3 times a year. I've got all the normal bolt-ons, nothing stock except the block and it's internals (rods, valves, etc).
