Disappearing threads?
Sometimes, I look for treads that I know were there a day ago, and there's no trace. Is there an explanation? Who does this? I've got a response all ready and the whole thread is gone. Is this chicken-**** or what?

I haven't been seeing too much of that lately. Are you sure you're not overlooking them? Otherwise they might be moved.
Some threads get deleted. Some threads get locked and there has been a lot of traffic recently pushing them down the list and onto page 2. |
Could be my oversite Unit.

On reflecttion, i do believe that there are some that do go away.

Some threads definately disappear. It just depends how hot they get, and if they are appropriate.

I have seen some that seem to disappear, but then find them later 2 or 3 pages later. There has been a lot of traffic lately.

'Missing' threads
To All:
Very few threads are deleted on this board; maybe one per month, sometimes not even that and FYI, I do most of the deleting, based on rule violations and/or inflamatory content. What often happens is this: you have your preferences set for two days (recommended) and if the post doesn't get a response within two days, it falls off your list of posts shown. Remember, the two-day time frame ends at 12:01 am, so the post you see at 11:45, go to get a snack and come back to post on, will be 'gone' when the clock turns 12:01. Just try changing your preference to say, five days, and it'll probably show up. Another factor in so-called 'disappearing threads' is the pages on the forum being allocated for posts. The traffic has increased and we often are using two pages and sometimes, three. Check the bottom of the list for the total number of posts and always go to the second page to check for those 'missing' posts. Sometimes, you can forget or confuse the title of the thread (many are similar) and that makes it hard to find again. I've done this. As I said; a very few threads do get deleted and I don't announce it, they just 'go'. This is necessary to keep a useful messageboard and is done infrequently as we have a intelligent, mostly mature membership that may get intense but usually not to the point of requiring deletion, which Dan and I attempt to avoid, and usually do. |
