Porcelain Brake Pads!
 

Anyone heard of Porcelain brake pads, got this from Stangnet.

Yes, I drove a friends Ranger before and after...much better clamps after the ceramic pads. It was markedly improved stopping but I am not sure on wear and such.

Ive never heard of em. I know Porsche has ceramic rotors on the 911 Turbo:eek: Sopposedly they are really good.

Never head of 'porcelain' brake pads which would be seem to be pretty fragile. I have heard of racing pads with a ceramic composite that strengthens the pad, which I'll assume is what you refer to.

If not, please enlighten us as to what a 'porcelain' brake pad actually is and how it works, should you have any other info.

Mr 5 0, I don't think these pads exist, i got this post from Stangnet, and wondered if "works" people had heard of them, yet, Pro-AMT say's he's heard of them. Hmmmm.:confused:

No problem - but you did make me curious.

Sounds like some sort of misunderstanding but you never know. New stuff comes out all the time and if there is a new brake pad composite I would like to at least know about it, so, just to be clear: my request was sincere, not sarcasm.

Oh! no problem Mr. 5 0, I never thought you were being sarcastic, I wouldn't have asked for your help if I didn't honor WHATEVER you said. To me your thoughts are usually par with mine, thats why I consult you. To me, we think the same. Like i said, i don't think a ceramic pad exists, i work at AUTOSTONE part time and we never heard of them.

Wagner produces a severe duty ceramic disc pad for some applications (suv, truck, and some cars). We have installed some on a few customer's vehicles...

No squeal, no dust... very pricey, though (over 100 bills for a front set, most applications)

...they are out there, not sure if Raybestos makes em, or Bendix

NEVER heard of porcelain disc pads... (I never know!)

I have been on vacation for 6 months now and will be going back soon, to brush up on all that stuff (I need to)...

<edit>.... I have a Boker (knife) with a ceramic/porcelain blade. Maintains the edge much better than any metal (D2, M2, 440C, ATS34, 154CM, just to name a few). BUT, the obvious trade off is the material, which is VERY fragile (DO NOT DROP!!!) ....anyhow

Got one of those ceramic Bokers as well....very slick cutter. They sharpen the son-of-a-gun with a laser. Know a guy who field dressed three large deer with a small Boker ceramic, and the blade didn't even wince. Still sharp enough to shave with.

Yeah, they hold up great for cutting, but they don't handle torque. In other words, don't try and remove your hub-caps with it. :)

Just to clarify, I've never used a knife as a pry-bar...just saying not to do so. :)

I've got a great supplier in Amarillo: Knives Plus. Their mail-order warehouse has absolutely great prices. Generally about $30-$50 less than you'll find in stores. I bought a Bob Lum Spyderco folder for $113 where they normally go for anywhere from $150-$170 (spyderco's MSRP is $194). If you ever need a great price, e-mail me and I'll hook you up. They carry everything from Al Mar to Boker, CRKT, Spyderco, Cold Steel, Benchmade, Emerson, etc.

Also, if you've never checked out Emerson, it's worth the price. Great hard-use knives in service with every branch of the military in some area. I've got the Commander series with the wave feature...extremely fast draw knife and tough.
