Is it a bad fuel pump?
I have a 1983 gt with a 650cfm Holley and a Holley intake. If I drive the car for 20 to 30 min and get on it a few times it dies and the (see thru) fuel filter goes dry. After about 5 minutes the car will start back up and the filter will be full of fuel. The fuel pump is not all that old but could it be bad? Thanks.

Disconnect the fuel line from the carb next time this happens and see if any fuel comes out when you crank the engine over. It could be a fuel pump. Try mounting an electric pump by the tank.

Thanks for the reply! I insulated all the fuel lines and the car is fine now - it was vapor lock. What a pain that was not knowing for sure. The car has a bit more power now as well :)

I was trying to think of the term "vapor lock", but had a brain freeze. That was why I suggested an electric pump by the tank. If the problem comes back, try that. Vapor lock occurs in a low pressure area (pump is pulling from the engine to the tank, creating a low pressure between the pump and the tank). Installing a pump by the tank would create high pressure in the lines, virtually eliminating the possibility of vapor lock.
