what should my mph's relate to in the 1/4??

Hey guys I went to the local airport today cause they have races there every month. The only thing is they dont have quarter mile times, but they do have a tree. I didnt have any slicks which really sucks, I just have regular street tires on and i was spinning through 3 gears and chirped into fourth. My average mph at the end of the 1/4 was 110. I was just wandering what times that should be around. And also what times should i be running when i get slicks and arn't spinning the tires half way down the track??
Any estemites will be apprieciated. Thanks...Im going to Island Dragway in N.J soon so ill tell you what times im running and how close it is to your guesses.

Damn dude!!! 110mph is alot considering your mods... You should be running a 12.0 to 12.2 with that MPH on slicks.

Impressive.

Shouldn't be that low. Keep in mind that if you spin your tires like crazy at the start, it will result in a much higher mph. That's why people see lower trap speed after getting slicks/ drag radials (assuming no other new mods). That is still really high though.

It is REALLY hard to give a ET on the trap speed, especially when the times for those trap speeds aren't given...I would guess (and this is JUST a guess like a 13.0-13.3)

Any more info for us?

Thanks,

NOTE: if you did have traction (slicks or drag radials) and still had the 110 mph, then you probably would be low to mid 12s.

Spinning the tires does not always build mph.....When you spin excessively like he does you can actually lose mph.

My car picked up 4mph on slicks over drag radials, and I knocked off 3 tenths off my 60ft. On drag radials I had to leave the line at an idle and still spun all of 1st and half of 2nd, I had to gradually accelerate till I was at WOT.

Even if you only run 106mph on slicks that could still be a 12.3-12.4 but if you have the power to spin the tires in third gear then I bet you will hit at least 108mph.

By looking at your mods I would guess you were a high 13 second car . I am assuming that your car is stripped down to the max or something.

Do you have an aftermarket speedometer or what cause my 88GT speedometer only goes to 85mph.

The more I think about it I dont think that theres any way you are hitting 110mph in the 1/4 with a stock upper intake....but I could be wrong.

Whatd u use to guage the speed? Your speedo is hardly accurate.

110 though will net 12.3's on good suspension and slicks.

a lot of people are not aware of this but the mph you get at the track is not your mph that you cross the finish line, but is the average of the last 60 ft i believe or something like that. So that explains the high mph

Ahh, I didn't even notice that this wasn't at the track. Should have read it more closely...I say...go to the TRACK!! :)

Thanks,

What you say is correct when using a G-tech. That is why a G-tech always reads the mph high, but it is incorrect if you are dealing with a 1/4 mile track.

skyman i was looking at my speedomiter when i crossed the line and thats what it read. When i was there i also saw the guy that orrigonially owned the car, and he said that he was running 13.1 on slicks with pushrods that were to small for the car, and he was still pulling the wheels off the ground. He also said he broke two trannies with the slicks. When i got it i had crane cams make extra hardened pushrods that were the right size and i put crane cams roller rocker 1.7's on.

Dark50-Yes my car is striped to the max all i have is 2 light weight seats and a 8 point roll bar.

Thanks for all of your replies. I will get to the real track as soon as i can.

The bottom line is that you didn't go 110mph in the quarter, Oh, sure, something told you, you did, like their inaccurate timing system, you stated it was incomplete, or your inaccurate speedometer, I've been doing this a long time and with those mods and especially with that RPM killing 3.55 gear, you will have been the first ever to run 110. Unless your race weight is 1900lbs, you stated your friend saw it, looked over at it, what kind of track lets passengers down the strip, this whole place sounds scary...........and very inaccurate.

Lifting the wheels up and chirping 3rd w/ those mods is VERY impressive. It'd be interesting to see what that car does w/ a nice set of heads, good intake, 3.73 or 4.10 gears, and freer flowing exhaust........that thing could probably fly if you put wings on it.

gtsr515 05-06-2002 08:41 PM

Lifted the wheels with street tires and a 3.55, i don't think so.

Chevysucks 05-06-2002 09:34 PM

hey gtsr515 i didnt say that he lifted the wheels off the ground with street tires, i said with SLICKS.

I was thinking about putting 3.73's in but i was told that i wont feel much of a difference.

I am soon putting AFR 185cc Heads on it and havnt decided on an intake. I dont need to change the cam its the X303-542 lift.

gtsr515 05-06-2002 09:55 PM

OOPS! my bad, guess I should follow my own advice and READ the post before replying, actually you would feel a bit of difference with 3.73's from 3.55's, I did, it puts your powerband where it should be. A noticably BUTT DYNO difference, not huge, but there. Go 4.30's and get it over with.

Chevysucks 05-07-2002 11:21 AM

hey do you guys think i would be in the low twelves with afr 185cc heads and a holley intake? with slick of course. right now my shitty t5 tranny is giving me problems with my syncros. i am thinking about getting a tko but dont know how they are.
