87LX hatch or 99-2002GT
Im looking to see what you guys think I should do Im thinking of getting a newer GT . what would you guys do buy a newer GT and turn the 87 into a drag only car or sink the money I would spend on the new car into the 87 and make it an all around street car. buying the newer car I would have to hold off on more mods on the 87 for a little time

Decisions, decisions
If you buy a late-model GT you'll have a nice street car with 13-second capabilities but you'll spend a lot of money (cash or payments plus interest) and lose quite a bit on depreciation.
If you sink the same money into the '87, you'll have a fantastic street car but probably never recoup the money you've invested, plus, you'll still have a 15-year-old car, although with all new parts. If it were me, I would want the late-model GT as my daily driver. Do a few minor mods (i.e. rear gears) and enjoy it while slowly building up the '87 as my drag car and not having to compromise on either car. Daily driver GT, all-out drag car '87. Nice. That it may take longer to build the '87 is a given, but you'll have more time to work on it, too and you won't have to compromise the power modifications by trying to keep it 'streetable'. |
I'd make the 87LX into a nice quick street car/daily driver. I'd look into a nice aluminum heads/intake/cam combo, maybe do some suspension like 1.5" lowering springs. I wouldn't make it all out drag and being able to support 2 stangs would be expensive especially considering you'd probably wanna mod the 99+ also and you'd be paying off the car too.

Thanks guys
when the time comes I will most likely get the newer GT that way I dont have to worry about the down time on the 87 and can still get work as for modding the newer car I will TRY and to only do like modds (gears, cat back,etc.etc...) so I have more to spend on the 87 to make it as much of a strip monster I can..... |
