Cleaning the.....
Does anyone know of a good method to clean the wiring harness. Part of the harness I'm using has some bad build up of grease and really would like to clean it up before I install it. Someone had said I can spray a degreaser and then rinse them off. Tried it but didn't do that much of a difference. Another person said to spray them again and put them hot water with some type of cleaner in the water. My concern is will the metal on the plugs rust if I do this. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

the best way to clean anything on your car is brake cleaner. it will take off any kind of dirt, grease and tar and it dries up on its own quickly.

You're not referring to the white grease on the little 'plugs' inside the wiring harness are you? If so, DO NOT clean it off, it's supposed to be there. Most all of your sensors will have this dia-electrical grease that prevents moisture from rusting the terminals while allowing current to pass through.

No I'm talking about the whole general harness. The car that it came off wasn't in that great of a condition and leaked oil on it and now I'm looking for a way to clean it up before I install it.

Oh, I got it - sorry for the confusion.
I've used Super Clean on really tough grime/heavy grease with much success. Just be careful not to get any on painted surfaces. It's pretty strong stuff. Good luck, E |
