94 GT Hp 1/4mile question
Hello All,
I am new to the GT world, I bought a 94 convertible GT, automatic about a month ago. I have pulleys, Flowmaster catback and h-pipe(2.5") system. Also have the boot taken out of the airbox and a K&N filter. Can you tell me what HP/Torque I should have and what that would equate to in the 1/4 mile?? Maybe also what qould be the next step in performance on a budget, less than $500. Thanks for all your help and I look forward to talking more on this site. Thanks John |
Hey, welcome John!
I have the same identical car as you. I think everyone here will tell you your next mod should be gears! They are definately the best bang for the buck! I would recommend 3.73's, but others will recommend 4.10's with the auto. andy |
I got 3.73's...because I was a little worried about gas mileage(spelling...)I WISH I WENT WITH 4.10's!!! Don't get me wrong, I love the 3.73's...but If I could go back and switch to 4.10's... If you can install them yourself, you'll be saving yourself around $200...but for $500 u could definatley buy the gears and everything u need to get them installed by a pro.

Thanks for advice
Hey guys,
Thanks for the advice. Andy, why going back to stock?? My car has a tan top and 17" chrome rims. What kind of hp/torque do you have?? Have you run at the track, or against other cars?? Why not the bigger gears, I have been looking into gears and was told with 4.11s at 60mph tach will still be below 2250rpm. 90lxdroptop, same questions as above. Also what do you think of your shift kit. I have been told by a reputable trans shop that mechanical kits can mess with the computer control of the trans. They recommended an electronic shift control kit. Any ideas or info from you or anyone else would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, John |
John I dont recommend the 4.10's in the Sn95 autos because of the 5500 rpm rev limiter. Another reason is speedo calibration. The drive gear is machined in to the output shaft, and is most likely 8 teeth. With the 3.73's I was stuck with a "special" 23 tooth driven gear, the teeth were paper thin! I replaced it more than once. With the 4.10's theres no chance of getting it even close, unless you rebuild the trans and change the output shaft to a 7 tooth. (which I did anyway)
My 94 is back to stock and up for sale. I have decided to concentrate on 1 mustang instead of 2. The only times I have from my car with the auto were with the stock convertor. A whopping 2.2 60ft attributed to the 14.0 @ 101mph. No tirespin at all.. hehehe.... I drove the car after the stall convertor installation, but never got any track times with it. A 13.8-.7 would have been about right. I got tired of dealing with the place who built my convertor so I decided to swap to a TKO last spring. I managed a 13.teen @ 110 with the same 2.2 60ft. But only this time there was lots of tirespin! hehee... As for the valve body shift kit: I liked mine! It made a huge difference! I didnt have any computer issues from it either. You can put a custom chip in your car to raise line pressure too. I did both! Let me know if you need a custom chip for your car. With a few mods, it will really wake your car up! andy |
OVERALL I like the transGo, it shifts real hard, compared to before. I got new street tires(I need wheels for my drag radials) and I chirp the tires every time hitting 2nd. (these new street tires are good too!) I didn't know about the trouble that 4.10's would cause in the sn-95's...I guess 3.73 would suit u better.

without gears I'll say you have ALMOST 200 (like 196) rear wheel HP, and around 265 rear wheel torque...
With your weight, stock gears and auto, if you get 2.2-2.4 60's you'll land about a 15.1-15.4 @ 91-93 mph |
i have a 95gt, and i put 3.73's in and it made a world of difference, with my car stock(k&n, flowmasters) i went 14.30, i have a 5 spd (ttc 3550), now i have a lot more done and am looking forward to going to the world ford challenge this weekend to see what i can get out of it. good luck with your gt.
(the mods that i think will benefit you the most right now are CHIP, GEAR, AND NITROUS) if you like that sort of thing |
My 5 speed 1995 GT has 3.73's. I was worried about them beening too steep also, but they aren't. Now that I've had them for a couple months, I can totally see why people would want 4.10's. I does't take a little while to get used to the way the car drives with the higher gears, but I love it.
Don't be afraid of 4.10's for your Auto! |
410's
hey guys,
Thanks for the good info. Other than the speedo thing the 410's sound good. Anyone with an Auto AODE, could you tell me what my rpm would be at around 60. Thanks, john |
