how to make my stock v6 into a mean street machine?
I am dying to blow away those sushi cars out there, I can beat stock preludes and civics, but lose to them when they have alterations done to them , , there is nothing more then I would love to do then paint "Sushi eater' on the back of my stang and blow these 'leaf blower" sounding things away!" , Don't these kids know about muscle cars???, I guess honda's are cheaper to supe up!!!, then getting a real hemi!! what can I do to increase my HP? what about . flow master!! or x or h pipes? thanks, former honda man( you believe it!!!)

The only way to make a "mean street machine" out of your V6 is to put a blower on it, IMO.
Either that or by a V8 :) The guys in the Small ponies forum might have some more info for you. |
adding alt. is not gonna increase performance.
A set of gears, a off-road H-pipe, and a Cat-back, would all help. You could always plumb up a 50-75hp shot of N2O. What year is your car? I assume a 94-98 V-6. Is it auto or stick? |
Go to the dealership and trade up for a GT.
|
What year V6 do you have?
If its a 99+, there are some worthwhile upgrades you can make that will help. If its a 94-98, don't waste your time and save your money towards to purchase of a GT. |
I would say weld in two more cylinders, or find someone that can bore/stroke your engine, port polish the heads, bigger valves, bigger injectors, and then spray and blow it. That would be cool, prob really expensive though... I would just see if you can sell your car and by a GT of some year.. If you are not looking at spending a lot of money, then get a pre-96 SOHC/DOHC GT, or get a 96-02 GT and pot the extra money to make it faster... Up to you.

You know, Vortech has a new supercharger kit out for 99-02 six cylinder mustangs that puts you up to 268 hp. Throw on a cat-back dual exhast kit and a K&N air induction system and you're good to go man. With that you would be ***** slapping supras and 300zx's let alone civics. Oh yeah RICE SUCKS!! -Matt

Let me first say this: If you've got a 94-98 v6, then just sell it, and get a GT. It's way too hard to make these models respectable. With that said, if you've got a 99 or newer, do this:
1. 4.10 gears 2. True Dual exhaust with a catless h-pipe 3. cold air intake 4. Underdrive Pulley 5. 75 shot of NOS 6. Chip 7. Drag radials With all these mods, you'll be able to hang with a lightly modded GT or pre98 camaro. |
Like everyone's saying, if you have a 94-98 don't even bother. Even if you have a 99+ the only way to go is to use a power adder like a blower or nitrous. I don't think it's worth it though and it would be cheaper to buy a V8 'Stang. The parts for your 3.8 are very scarce and the parts that do exist are wussy bolt ons like cold air and pulleys. If you do decide to mod it though you can't go wrong with a set of rear gears.
|
Not to mention, even with a blower or nitrous, your rear axle is only a 7.5" not an 8.8", I'm sure the tranny is weaker, better off with 94-95 GT. Good looking car with the 5.0L V8 :)

hahahahahahahhahahaha... pity the fool

According to his profile it's a black 2001 Mustang V6.
Is your white 98 in your profile a V6, too? Not trying to be a smart ***** but you honestly should have bought a GT. Might as well start out that much faster than a V6 rather than start out slow with a V6 and dump a bunch of money into it to get it to the power of a stock V8. Imagine what that money spent on the V6 would do to a V8? The GT isn't that much more than the V6. If nothing else buy a used GT. The GT will still get good gas mileage, too. |
Well everyone has a point about getting a V8 but a fast V6 is a little more unique, I'll admit. True dual exhaust from www.Cal-Mustang.com, gears, intake- there is a mass air kit from C&L, someone mentioned the blower from Vortech- Procharger also has one for the V6. And to correct info about the tranny, atleast the auto, the auto trannies in the 99 and up are VERY strong and durable trannies.

I have a 99 mustang v6 and these sites will help you out with anything and everything. suggestions as to what to add on. I would say with out getting really involved and try and stay simple just get new headers, exhualts, ram air cold air, under pull from steeda the harmonic balancer one, 3.73.1 ring and pinion gears if you get 4.10 your highway driving is going to suck. If you have any other question shoot me an email michael@hostglobe.com ill be more than happy to help.

A V-6 stang is never going to be that fast unless you spend a ton of money. Theu arent bad cars though if you have to have a V-6. A kid at my school has a '97 V-6 stang with some mods and it a pretty nice ride. He has:
-A flowmaster cat-back (dual pipes) and some kind of H-pipe conversion for the duals. -a shifter (dont know what kind?) -3.73's -Kenne Bell Ram Air set up -BBK throttle body -Autolite plugs -Autospecialty Underdrive pulley's It not a bad setup. I think it runs good for a V-6 and considering the small amount of money put into it, its pretty sweet. Of course it not gonna kill everything on the road but oh well. |
