AOD - How much HP?

Hi there. I'm getting back into the 5.0 litre scene after a few years absence. I had a 5 speed 91 before, but am thinking about getting an AOD car this time for 2 reasons. The first is that I commute in heavy traffic every day. The second is that I've taken home a lot more bracket racing trophies with auto cars.

My question is, how much horsepower will the AOD take before needing to be "beefed up"?

Thanks in advance. :)

Well It matters how many miles are on it if theres a lot then it won't hold up to 295 300 crank horse. But if theres low then it would but not long, it would be a good idea too just build one, there's so many things that are weak in the aod's stock. I bought the TCI street fighter and i'm liking it.

Its one of those things where you might get lucky and your AOD holds up well to increased power. Or you could break it tomorrow. Generally speaking , the input shaft is the weakest link and Ive seen them break on nearly stock cars.

If you get a non-lockup converter, one piece input shaft, and a fresh rebuild, it should handle just about anything you throw at it.

and get the "A" overdrive piston, and a good shift kit, and a auxilary tranny cooler.
