12's Baby!

Finally today at the track I broke into the 12's.:o I ran a best of
12.99 @ 107.58 with a .637 reaction and a 2.003 60'. All this with 35 psi in my Falken 245/45/17 street tires. With a set of subframes and stickey tires, I think I could run 12.70's. Oh and I was launching at 2,000 rpm's.

That's awesome man, congrats!!

jax702 05-19-2002 05:56 AM

interesting

A 12 on street tires with no real power added huh? Sounds a lil hard to believe, but then again...why would u lie

98SNAKE 05-19-2002 09:57 AM

Trust me it's no lie. If I can figure out how to up load the time slip you'll see.:D Also my 1st to 2nd up shift I granny shift, and still spin like crazy. So if high 12's with out a power adder is hard to believe then don't look when low 12's come .

Not to be mean at all, but where have you been?? The mod cobra's are damn near 12 sec car's stock. All they need is exhaust, some pulleys, and steep gears. If driven right, on drag radials, they'll run 12's all day.

not looking

If you run a low 12 on street tires in a 98 GT with no power adder, you should video tape yer performance and tell the folks at home how ya did it. Then sell the tapes for $100 bucks a pop.
You will be rich!

Congrats on the 12 second pass it's a great feeling isn't it?!

Will, just noticed you have a SPEC clutch how do you like it? My pressure plate took a dump on me this weekend and I'm ordering a stage three Monday morning.

I went to Ubly, the track itself is really nice. The rest is nothing to nice. Lapeer is the worst track probably in the U.S. There mph is high by 2mph, the track is terrible, and the pits are all gravel.

Next week I will be in Chicago, if you want wait a little and we could hook up and go to Ubly. What's up with your gears?

Ya it was nice to finally get there. With my mph so high what do you think I could run if I hook?

I love the clutch, holds really well. In the brake in period made a little noise but went away shortly. I think the stage 2 is rated up to 500 horse, whats the stage 3?

COBRAon18s 05-19-2002 10:16 PM

i know im gonna regret it but i decided to go with 4.10's, the gas in my vains was telling me to go with 4.30's, and the fact that i got smoked, yet again, by a trans am today, all should make me go with 4.30's, but for some reason, i think the 4.10's are better for me. dont ask why, just some kinda hunch. im getting them installed hopefully thursday, thats why i wanna go to the track on sunday. where the heck is ubly??? and how far from oak park?? more details please, by the way, congratulations on your run, i could never make it that quick for the mere fact that my rims probably weigh a ton and my convertible top doesnt help either.

98SNAKE 05-19-2002 10:34 PM

Hey 4.10's are'nt a bad choice. Ubly is in the thumb, you take m-53N to m-46E to m-19N. It's about an 1 1/2 from me so probably 2 from you. There were a few ws6 at the track running 13.3-13.4 you could get there with a few other mods.

98SNAKE - Dude congrats.

Way to work for it. Congratulations on the timeslip. :)
Good track conditions, good air too? Amazing how all that stuff applies especially when you're fighting for a tenth of a second.

With that MPH and perfect traction I would think you will see 12.4 to 12.5. However keep in mind that with a street tire you are getting some spinning, although minor, and will inflate your MPH slightly. I would say with slicks you'll see more along the lines of 106.5-107 MPH and mid 12's.

Yeah I heard about some possible clutch chatter for the first few hundred miles. I'll have 2.5 weeks to break mine in before the Gainesville FFW event which shouldn't be a problem with my 75 mile a day commute. The stage three is rated at 600-625RWHP. More than enough for my car but with all the abuse I put my car through and the fact that I can't afford to have it break at an event I went with a little overkill. Also a power adder is in my future so I wanted to be prepared for it.

The conditions where perfect, about 59 degrees and low humidity. The track was also in great shape, on the line when I launched I could feel my tires wrinkle like a slick. Knowing my luck the conditions will never agian be that way.:(
