Bald tires, wet cali streets, don't mix
Well, it is raining here for the first time since I got back. I decited that I wanted to drive my stang since I have been trying to realign my front end after I put in the new lower A arm bushing and anti-sway arm bushings. I knew it was going to be slick, so I put my car in the 2-3 drive feature. I didn't have any problems till I got to town.
The first stop light I came to, I couldn't even stop in time and slid out part way in the intersection. The light turned red quickly and so I had to lock up the tires to stop. The car was still in 2-3 drive, so when i turned green, I tried to go. Notice the word "Tried". Even in 2 gear, I was spinning all day long. I wasn't even really moving. I had to keep giving it more throttle to even move. It was really a cool sight. Moving kinda sideways down the city streets. For some reason, this was the only really bad problem I had. I still spun real easy, but not as bad as here. Also, going down the road at 50, then spinning the tires is the coolest thing. I now know what it feels like to for u other ppl that have the power to do it on command, at any time. I WANT MORE HORSEPOWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Get some tires, you're gonna wreck your car. I don't care how good a driver you are, when you hit some standing water and you hydroplane, there is no telling when the car is gonna catch the road again. Been there, done that. Lot's of white knuckle driving. :(

Amen to what Unit said, that is how i killed my '79 stang, coming off 275 onto 60, I learned the joys of hydroplaning:(
on the off ramp:"wow, are things supposed to spin like that?Thud!" J |
Yeah, WTF is up with this weather???
Come on Cali, you can do better than this, it's almost summer!! |
Unit 5302, your almost right on.
Yesterday, I did almost wreck. I was going to Fairfield in the car because my truck was armed, and i didn't have the alarm key. It wasn't raining so I wasn't worried. On the way back, it started raining like a tropical strom crap. There was about 2 inches of water on the road, no kidding, and I could feel the car lift up on the water and hydroplane real bad. I knew to take it easy and so I was. I was almost to base when a eclipse passed me. So after, I felt the rear end get lose and start to pass me on the right. I tried to counter steer, but I was hydroplaning too bad to steer. I ended up doing a 180 and sliding into a ditch. Luckly all the happend was I got a flat tire later on in the day. I was able to get out of the ditch pretty easly. |
Be careful, Kaspar, Kell's right. Especially out here. We got less than a 1/4" out of that storm, but since it never rains here, the roads were slick. They said a month ago there would be no more rain until October, so I washed my truck (why else do you think it rained again?). Anyway, they're saying that again, but you still need better tires.
Drive careful if you want to drive again tomorrow. Take care, -Chris |
here it said it rained about 1 ½"
Set a new record. I'm changing out my tires this next weekend. |
yeah, you get alot more rain than we do.
Take care, -Chris |
I guess we set a new record for the month too. Broke all records. Week, day, and month. I've only seen more rain when I lived in Oregon. It rained so hard in one day, that it made all the river flood; and they were normal the day before. It rained hard for 24 hours straight. didn't let up at all later the next day. Even then, it still rained off and on.
