Damn E-Brake cable...

Well, I just got to work today. I pulled up on the e-brake, and the cable snapped. How hard is it to replace the cable running from the brake handle to the separator? The two cables going to the rear tires are fine, as is the separator. I just need to replace the one cable that attaches to the handle. Right now, (obviously) the cables are laying on top of the driveshaft. I could probably wire them up to the floorboards, but I've got about 50 miles home, and I think everytime I hit a bump, the driveshaft will bounce up with the axle, and scrape the cables. Would probably really suck if the cables were to get wrapped around the driveshaft...

If it's no big deal, I'd like to just replace the cable here at work.

Thoughts?

Thanx!

It's a big deal. You have to buy the whole assembly which includes that separator. It's likely that the part won't be in stock, either. You have to pull your center console, as well. Mine is currently broken. It broke after I fixed it once already so I just used wire ties to secure it. I will fix it again when I redo my brakes.

Hmmm...

I wired it with amout 5" of wire to the little clip that was right in front of the separator. Do you have any "rubbing" noises?

I'm not worried about the use of the brake, so if I have to do a tempo repair, I can... Just worried about getting the wire caught around the driveshaft.

Thanx!

Hey- is that where Ford got the "Tempo" from? Was it a "Tempo-rary" car?:D

I don't think the cables are long enough or flexible enough to just get snagged and wrap around the driveshaft. The lead things on the end would most likely just bounce off the shaft giving it a good polish. The sound kind of sucks so what you did sounds fine.

When I said whole assembly, I just meant the one short cable that goes through the separator and the separator. Not the handle or anything like that.
