Nitrous Jetting
I was thinking of running the Fuel Jet for a 150hp setting with the Nitrous jet from a 125hp setting together. This would run it real rich on the juice, and what I was thinking was it would let me run about 15-16 degrees of timing and not have to retard it on the juice.
Anyone done this before? Skyler |
Damn, that's a interesting concept......I'm not sure if it'd work, but I'd be interested in hearing what the experts on the board have to say about it.

Yeah, you should be fine just be careful with how rich you get it. If you want, i'll take my two-stage fogger off my car and you can use it :) But you have to give it back. lmao

i always run 3 jet sizes bigger on the fuel side, (bigger than nos suggests) just to be on the safe side, but at the same time since your making it run rich, your gonna lose some power. i dont know exactly how much but you will lose some. so yeah i think it would be ok to use the bigger jets

You run 3 sizes biggeR? That means you run the 80 n20 and 150 fuel? What size jets? what do u mean?

That is really the wrong way to do it. With nitrous you need less timing to make peak power. You don't need the distributor cranked like when it's N/A.
Also with that much extra fuel it will probably run so rich that it will slow down. I am guessing you don't want to mess with retarding timing on the street. Sometimes you want to run someone on motor only, and you don't want performance to suffer. No? |
yeah, i would rather not dick with my timing everytime i want to race someone on motor or on spray, i like to not pop my hood unless something goes wrong, what i mean by 3 sizes bigger is if the kit calls for a #60 i use the #63, just to be on the safe side cause i dont like messing with my timing.

Did you guys check into the MSD adjustable timing thing? I have one and I can advance the timing 15deg from the driver seat by turning a knob. When you are going to spray just back off the timing by turning the knob a few clicks.

there are alot of ways to do what you want. the best way and proper way is to get a msd retard box. this will retard the timing when you hit the juice only. next, what hp level do you actually want? you dont always need to lower your timing for the nitrous. running 13 timing with up to a 150 shot is fine. as long as the fuel system is correct. from the factory the jet recomendation are high on the fuel ratio to prevent running lean and hurting the motor. so by going up more on the fuel will hurt nitrous performance. i would just set timing at 12 or 13 and leave it. changing you timing back and forth for street or strip doesnt really give any performance gains. it only moves the power band around and is used for tuning.

I ran a Compucar system for a while & they were know to be rich out of the box. However, I don't reccomend running the jets fat on fuel. Remember that with the EECIV calling the shots, the computer is just going to try to pull the fuel back out when the O2 show rich. My experience was to run only a few degrees off what I would run N/A. The biggest tuning detail was to make sure the bottle pressure was right on what the jets were set up for. I popped more on low bottle pressure (therefor rich) then I ever did on high bottle pressure (therefore lean). Just make sure you have enough fuel pump to support your total HP.

FOR FUEL INJECTION ENGINES....
N2O / Fuel / Horsepower Gained. 34/18 40HP 37/22 50HP 39/24 60HP 41/26 70HP 43/28 80HP 46/30 100HP 52/33 125HP 61/38 150HP For a carb setup running 5psi of fuel pressure, the basic jetting is as follows: N2O / Fuel / Horsepower Gained. 38/46 50HP <Very Rich Jetting 46/53 75HP <Very Rich Jetting 57/65 100HP <Very Rich Jetting 47/53 100HP <NOS Jetting. 55/61 125HP <NOS Jetting. 73/82 150HP <NOS Jetting. 82/91 175HP <NOS Jetting. if you go to rich you can run into puddling of the fuel and improper atomization . are they jets from the same company or kit 5 sizes would be a huge change. and running it that advanced might be a reason for a rebuild because the initial charge wont be atomized and if your not running a purge system and get all fuel the computer pulles fuel just as the n2o hits the chamber and bad things can happen. |
