Fuel Pump

Im looking for some cheap mods for my 66. I'm thinking about getting a new fuel pump. There is nothing wrong with the one I have except the technology is 30some years old. So I'm wondering if there's any reason why I shouldn't upgrade my fuel pump?

My stang only has around 260hp. I have a Edelbrock Performer 600cfm Carb and Edelbrock Performer 289 Intake and Id like to pick up the Edelbrock Performer fuel pump #1725.

Save your money, its not going to increase performance.

Or spend the dough on someting worth while. Like a wing or lots of stickers:)

You might consider tossing your old point style ignition for a used duraspark electronic setup. An electronic ignition is maintenance free, gives you more horsepower, better gas mileage and better throttle response compared to points. You can do this cheaply. I went with an MSD ignition on my car but it's really not necessary. The Ford duraspark will fire your cylinders without any trouble.

If you increase fuel pressure with a pump that can deliver more volume, then you'll also need a pressure regulator else the higher pressure will force the float valve in the carb open and you'll have fuel everywhere.

As others have said, stick with your stock Carter fuel pump and if you think its bad, replace it with another one.
