HAs anyone put AUTOMETER gauges in factory dash?
I have a 1983 GT and I'm trying to find out if autometer makes a tach and speedo that will fit in the factory dashboard spot?
Thanks |
I can't remember if autometer makes OEM bolt ins, but I kknow that I have seen other companys making replacement tach/speedos. I dont know any of the urls off the top of my head, but you could try a search engine for "instrument cluster" or something.
Another idea that I think looks pretty cool is this. I have seen several cars that they have just replaced the stock cluster with a sheet of brushed aluminum, and have the gauge holes cut to fit and wired in. One thing that might prove to be a bit of a prob is that on the earlier models at least, they used a thin, flexable plastic and copper "circut board" that controls the instruments (temp, fuel, alt). You might be able to modify it to fit the new cluster as long as you are not planning to rearrange the locations of the secondary gauges. I am going from what I remember from my '79 and '77 stangs. Of course, in theory, you could just try to bore out the holes you already have to fit the autometers, and just plug them through, but I think that might not exactly look right. Just my $.02 tho. just checked jegs, and found this, dont know what the diameter of the cluster holes are tho.

Florida 5.0 sells what you are looking for. It's pricey though.
