1/4 Mile Times Help....anyone?

Ok, with all of the mods listed below, I went to the track last night, and my buddy drove my car...we only got one pass...and he ran only a 14.6 @102mph. Now, this car has got tons of power, but why is is so slow in the 1/4. I have lowering springs on it, and the radials spin like mad through 1st and 2nd gears. His 60ft time was 2.395...I had this same problem last year at the track when I drove...I could only muster up 99mph though...but this year, I have a 75mm MAF instead of the stock one. Can anyone tell me why in the hell my car is turning this horrid times. I have a Vortech S-Trim that I'm going to be installing this week and was hoping for a lot better times than that b/4 I put it on.

P.S. I have a 60ft time, and he was shifting @ 6,000rpms....I think he should have shifted @ 5,500...b/c the powerband on my cam, lifters, and pushrods is 5,500...can anyone help me?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but with trap speeds of 102mph, you should be easily in the 13's. Sounds like a traction problem to me, especially with the 60ft time.

That mph is good. 102mph will take you into the low 13's on slicks if you hook very well.

I ran 13.2@105.8 with lowering springs.

I went with drag suspension.

12.55@106.9mph now.

You should shift at 5500-5600 though, You'll probably pick up about .7mph more.

All the power in the world is useless unless you have a suspension that will allow you to hook-up! Look at your 60ft times,it's obvious you have traction problems.

You need drag radials! I see time & time again people upset with their times when they are running regular street tires. You must have suspension to go along with the power,or it will never work.

What do you have for struts up front? Take and install at least 70/30's up front to get the nose raising up and the rear squatting. When the rear squats, then you need some sticky tires,or everything goes up in smoke. The aftermarket control arms help most also when you have sticky drag radials.

DON'T SPIN! If you are spinning, that is wasted power. If the tires start spinning, let off a little and let them catch, learn to launch.

Get rid of them cheap *** heads and get you a drag launch kit

quick89gt 04-15-2001 11:39 AM

haha...well, ricky1...i would love to get rid of the cheap *** heads, but I just bought an S-Trim and will start putting it on later today, so needless to say...I'm very, very broke...my next thing is going to be drag radials and 4cyl springs and sub-frame connectors...then, hopefully my car will scream down the 1/4.

Dont listen to ricky your heads are great. Anyways... I wouldnt buy drag radials unless you really want the street traction. I would just get a set of full slicks on a separate pair of rims. Its definatly worth it at the track. Ive tried drag radials and ET streets, and nothin hooks like a slick.

thanks, skyman...i didn't think they were all that bad. yeah, i want to get DR's because i want hella traction on the street. that's where the car will mainly be used...b/c i am trying to milk my T-5 for as long as i can...plus, i don't have the money to race and break my car all the time...lol.

I wouldnt even consider that run...with a 2.4 60' you can't even begin to guesstimate what you car can run with traction. Just get a better tire and start working on leaving without wheelspin. I'm from illinois also, what track to you run at?

I think that's it. GO ILLINI!!!
Waiting for good weather for new times.

I run at GATEWAY INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY, right by St. Louis. Yeah, i'm hoping to cut down on those 60ft times...but i'll have to wait to do that until after i get my blower installed http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif
