4.10's Are In, Thanks Everybody!!!

Just wanted to say thanks to everybody that reccomended gears for a mustang. My 4.10's got installed today and its like a whole new car. The thing pulls like crazy. I just wanted to say thank you to all the people that helped with my long and boring questions. Thanks again.

Knew you'd love the gears. Enjoy em!

Just got back from the track and pulled a 14 flat. im not to happy, does this time sound alright for what i have??? by the way, stock shifters suck!!!!

Mercury 05-26-2002 07:25 PM

I'll definetly agree with you on the stock shifters. They really suck..Mush Mush Sponge.

What was your trap speed?? And your 60 ft times? What do ya shift at? How do you launch?

I'm not sure of the altitude, but at 85 degrees with about 80 percent humidity (Maybe a smidge more). I ran a 14 flat at 102 MPH in my 2000 GT.

Once I get the Launching down on the track, and dont bounce the rev limiter, I should be into the 13's. I know theres more ET there to be had, just gotta figure out the whole track thing.

wade73 05-26-2002 07:26 PM

Alot could affect your times, such as:

1. track temp
2. air temp
3. humidity
4. elevation
5. tires / traction / wheelspin at launch
6. 60 foot time (good indicator of traction)
7. and certainly not the last but the most important driver ability. a good driver can can get more out of a car than your average driver. driver skills are probably the most important part of the equation, i think. put a great driver in a stock gt, and they stand a darn good chance (i would bet money on it) versus an inferior driver in say, a supercharged saleen with too much wheelspin, slow/botched shifting, etc. maybe thats stretching it a bit, but you understand what i am saying.

COBRAon18s 05-26-2002 07:55 PM

here is what the slip shows, im running street tires.

reac .991
60ft 2.080
1/8 et 9.248
1/8 mph 81.15
1/4 et 14.055
1/4 mph 102.32

This is my first time at the track, so im guessing im not the greatest of all drivers. to me, this 1/4 et seems high, could it be lowered, or the fact that i have a vert with huge rims make that kinda impossible without adding stuff.

thanks for the replies

by the way, here is pics of my car

A 99 cobra (assuming you've had "the fix") with an hpipe and gears should be at least low 13's. Get a short throw shifter next and some Drag radials at the same time. Your 60' was very good, were you in it all the way off the line?? With IRS, that 60' seems way too low to be achieved full throttle. With a better shifter, some sticky tires, and some pro driving, you could MAYBE see very high 12's. Oh yeah, get some underdrive pulleys too. Good Luck

On edit: Didnt notice it was a vert. Just add like 2-3 tenths too all the times I mentioned above. You should still be mid 13's with your mods.

COBRAon18s 05-26-2002 08:30 PM

thats exactly what i was thinking, i thought for sure i would run mid 13's but when i ran the 14, i was mad. I have a strong feeling it was the shifter. I did have the fix done. I dont know how i did it, but i lauched without any bunny hop from the irs. I was very surprised at my launch, but i chirped in second and third, and shifting took forever because for some reason, i have to force the shifter into the gears. Im going back to a different track in two weeks without changing anything, just in case today was a fluke(doubt it). im hoping for mid 13's. to me, 14s isnt acceptable.

98SNAKE 05-27-2002 11:13 AM

What track did you end up going to?

Will

COBRAon18s 05-27-2002 03:29 PM

I should have taken your advice, i ended up going to the worst track ever, lapeer. Ubly is kinda far for me, i might go to milan, but ive never heard anything about it. im gonna try that a week from sunday. I felt like crap at lapeer, i was pretty much the only semi stock car there. Everybody was running 11's and less. Is there any time where more stock cars race than drag cars???

98SNAKE 05-28-2002 06:03 AM

It seems to me that the only car's that go out there are drag cars. I will never go to that track again, there times are off i've been told. Will hook up and go to milan, give me a date and i'll check my schedule.

COBRAon18s 05-28-2002 09:13 AM

If the weather is good, june 9th will be when i head up to milan. I will probably be there at opening. Sound good???

98SNAKE 05-28-2002 04:35 PM

They only have open track wed. from 4 to 9:30 or fri. test and tune from 4 to 7:30 and they also have races going on, on fri.

COBRAon18s 05-28-2002 10:47 PM

shoot, i didnt realize that, sunday morning is pretty much the only day i can go, i have classes on wednesday. What suggestions do you have, maybe ubly??

COBRAon18s 05-29-2002 11:51 PM

Do you know what days and time ubly offers an open track, for testing??? I dont think i would mind driving if its a nice track.

EZRIDN 05-30-2002 06:35 PM

What was ur 330' time?

98SNAKE 05-30-2002 07:52 PM

Saturday's from 2 till 8 is testing. And they have one of the best tracks.

COBRAon18s 05-31-2002 01:21 PM
