Can i keep up with my friends LS1?

What's up guys, Im new here! Well my friend want's to race me. He has a 98 Z six speed with the followin mods.

Hooker-catback,Slp air lid,FTRA(He said it's some sort of ram air system) FRA(Another ram air thing)and of course K&N. I have a stock 5 speed 2001 Gt. I know i will lose but by how much?

If you're equal drivers, from a dead stop to 70, you'll lose by a couple. From a freeway roll, it wont be pretty.

You'll need gears, pulleys, exhaust and a 75 shot to mop the floor with him bad.

Don't waste gas

I agree with warrior. Of the line it'll be really close. The Z has more horses due to the 5.7L, but it weighs more. Whereas your gt weighs about 500 lbs less and is short about 120 horses. Once he gets that thing moving, you're done. On the other hand, who says it has to be in a straight line? His LS1 won't handle for crap on a curvy section of road at high speed. If you can drive, you can take him...

gotta disagree with you on the handling part matt...the z will eat a mustang and spit it out on any handling aspect you can think of (with equal drivers, of course). z28's / TA's are extremely well handling cars. they dont ride worth a flip, thou. the mustang is so much more liveable on an everyday basis. you need a kidney belt to ride in a z28/ta, especially with the w06 option. just check out any comparison in the last, say 20 years and the z28/ta routs the mustang in slalom, skid pad, the works. but its a GM product so who cares?!:D

my little secret...

I have somewhat of a confession to make...our little secret. Before I bought my pony, I was seriously looking into a '00 Z28. However, when I test drove one, I HATED IT. I found that it tended to severly understeer going balls to the wall and it was way to easy to put into a drift. I would put my rocket up against an LS1 anyday, SS included. Besides, most people around here can't drive for **** anyway! Blue Oval Muscle's the only way to go!--Matt--
