We all have our little FREE speed tricks, I know alot of them, but not all of them, I'd like to see what all you smart 5.0 racers have come up with over the years!:)

Track tips
 

Ice on the intake is a must, especially in hotter weather. Bring a big cooler, lots of ice and plenty of towels to wrap the ice in. Keep the hood open as long as possible.

Assuming you have good street tires, pump up the fronts to the max + 5 pounds. Leave the rears (street tires) 5 under max.

New plugs and fresh oil are also a must for the track, unless you go constantly.

Start with about a 1/3 tank of gas - no more. Too much gas adds weight (6.2 pounds per gallon).

You can empty the trunk and remove the front seat to lose some weight.

These are no-brainers that I've used in the past with success.

I always removed that heavy dampner on the rear-end.

I have heard differing opinions on this, but what about removing the front sway bar to lose weight ?

Run a short belt....although technically it is not free.

definately remove the front sway bar, not only for weight, but to help weight transfer.

you can either get a short belt, or remove the belt alltogether if you are desperate for that last tenth or so. just take the belt with you and put it back on on the return road. (not recommended though)

I've heard of filing the tips of the spark plugs back to no more than halfway over the electrode of the plug, this reduces plug life but is supposed to be a decent gain.

running 1qt low on oil is another trick, not sure exactly why though

if you have a cold air intake that puts your filter in the fenderwell then removing your passenger side corner light makes for a free ram air type setup

I've always seen a consistent 0.05 faster ET after the removal of the passenger seat.

I've always wanted to try putting some small bags of dry ice in the airbox on the outside of the filter, that would sure make for a chilly intake charge, not sure if it would restrict flow too much though.

The 1 quart low thing works because the crank will no longer be swimming in oil, same as how a windage tray keeps the oil below the crank. I saw a test that showed 10 extra hp from running with 4 quarts of oil rather than 5.5 or whatever capacity is (I never use more than 4 1/2 or so).

fiveohpatrol, i would advise against the dry ice idea. maybe i'm misunderstanding what you're saying but i'm getting the idea that your car is gonna be breathing in CO2 as the dry ice evaporates. if you attatched it to the outer part of the airbox, right under the hood, you might get a little improvement.
