Is the IRS to Solid 8.8 rear end swap worth it?
I know of several Cobra owners who have swapped IRS to Solid, what do you guy's think?
I have a 99 Cobra with 4.56 gears |
If you mainly want to use the car for drag racing and straight line launches, especially on slicks, then I would say you can't beat the solid axle for that. If you like carving corners, the IRS does have a slight advantage, especially over bumpy or uneven surfaces. I think Kenny Brown even makes components for the IRS now. Like most decisions for a Stang, it all depends on what your main mode of use is...

Kenny Brown offers lowering springs that greatly reduce the wheel hop issues on the IRS Cobra's.
The IRS is better in the twisties, and for everyday driving. The solid axle is more efficient amounting to more rwhp, and it has less tendancy to wheelhop. It's also lighter. |
