loud knocking sound around 4500 rpm's....

whenever i get up to 4500 rpm's i heard this really fast knocking-type sound....

I think it's maybe my headers hitting up against my starter, could anyone back me up on this or does anyone have another idea?

if it IS the headers smacking my starter, what can i do to fix it?

thanks a ton guys, i realy do love this site, i get SOOO much help here

i have mac's on my 95 and they dont even come close to hitting the starter, do you have longtubes? equal lengths? or unequals?

Sounds like an imbalance in the wheels and tires, or maybe bad wheel bearings, is the driveshaft hitting something, or maybe its in the rear end.

you can tell the noise is coming from the engine area.

when i took my car to midas to get new tailpipes awhile ago he said that my headers rub my starter, im just wandering if they could get so hot and so much heat going through them that they start to vibrate.....

i don't know what kind noise your hearing but, my car used to do the same kind of sound and i found out that my car was pinging. i was using the cheep gas so i put a higher octane in and it stopped.

my symptoms:
5000rpms it made the noise and lost some power.
if you chug it down low in third gear it dose the some noise.

this could be way off but it was worth a say.
