How much HP do they have? and around what price range do I expect to pay?

Can I do lots of mods to it and can I expect big HP gains

Go to www.svtperformance.com and take a look at the 93 cobra section and read all you want. Theres alot of good info. As far as the price, theres alot of factors on that, so check autotrader or some other source.

OOoohhh yeah, a 93 cobra would be nice but lets be realistic here... I'd look for an 89-92 mustang. What are you looking for???I like the notch cars. You can probably get a clean 92 for about $7k. That would be a very clean car..You could easily get one for less though.

I'm thinkin' of also getting a 5.0L if my baby has to go. My dad had a chance to buy a 90 Cobra yesterday with about 60k miles, for $3000 Canadian but the guy ended up selling it just before he could get a hold of him. The guy needed the money quick that's why he sold it. I was so mad when he told me that, he said it had some stuff done to it. He knew it had the 5 star pony rims on it too. I would of driven that no problem at all. Ohh... well, hopefully another one comes by. :(

They started the cobra's in 93 and they had 17" rims not pony's.

Canadian Cobras are basically GTs.

If you want a tilt steering wheel, 140mph speedo, and no air bags, an 89 would be the best 5.0 to get.

Just make sure you get Mass air and forged pistons...Hyperutectic (sp) won't take as much abuse

mustangman65_79 06-03-2002 03:32 AM

The '89 I bought was pertty quick for stock. I found out something sick about it though. I was testing out the motor and I found out that it would rev to 7 grand. I don't know if the gov ever kicked in because I let off before it got any higher. Damn the motor was screeming.

jimberg 06-03-2002 07:58 AM

If you were able to rev to 7 grand you either have a chip installed or you tach is way off.

I know someone who has an 89.. it has no rev limiter either.

jimberg 06-03-2002 09:28 AM

I never really tried it, but the rev limiter may only be active under load and not while sitting still in neutral.

tireburner163 06-03-2002 09:52 AM

IMO, the best years are the 89-92's. The 87 and 88's are a close second and I don't really like the 93's.

BTW, the 87-88's are faster stock or mildly modded.

why not? whats wrong with the 93's that you don't like???

Mach 1 06-03-2002 09:25 PM

The rev limiter works while in park or neutral, not just under load.

A lot of people dont like the 93's because they dont have the forged pistons, and they horsepower rating dropped that year for various reasons, none important enough to matter, as it was basically the same engine making the same power.

Ill point out some good points about the 93's that most people dont think about.

1- Hyper pistons are better for a naturaly aspirated setup, and even a mild power adder setup, as they have tighter clearances and less expansion and retraction, producing a 5.0 motor that doesnt start to burn oil after 100K like most of the forged piston variety, where you have to add a quart every 3K miles.

2- the 93's are supposed to have better engine mounts, the same as the convertible mounts.

Yeh I believe the only difference was better suspension, and acouple other little things not really sure. Either way $3000 Canadian so like $2000 is a pretty sweet deal. So I believe. They go for around $6000-$7000 here. And some times more miles too.

Me and my friends was looking under my hood one night and one asked if i added the vert mounts. I said i didn't and when i bought the car nothing was said so thats probly true.

tireburner163 06-04-2002 03:14 AM

well the 93's don't have forged pistons which is a minus for a N2O junkie like me.

They also have the worst computer of all fox bodies, short of the 93 Cobra.

What kind of information do you have that you know the 93 computers are worse than the earlier ones?

I read in a book about mustang tuning where one builder actually recommended the 93 computer as the best one.

In my own experience, I swapped a 89 computer into my 93, and it did feel like it perked up some. Hard to tell for sure though.
