Shopping for longtubes..any suggestions?

I really want to add longtubes to my car now, but am concerned about clearance of the auto tranny. I heard MAC makes longtubes that fit, and was wondering if they are any good? Are there any other brands (without breaking the bank) that will fit. Are longtubes a pain to install, and are they really worth it? Thanks!

I have BBK long tube ceramics and I love them. They are def worth the money and give a bunch of extra power and a great sound. They weren't that difficult to install like other headers. I don't know if they fit the auto trans, but if it possible get long tubes!

I've had alot of diff. headers on alot of different cars, and BBK's headers are far superior over the other brands.

BBK is junk..My buddy Rob bought some 1 5/8's for his 92 GT 408 stroker...etc...and the BBK's would not bolt up for anything. The guy at BBK assured him it would fit. He called summit and ordered their $79.95 long tubes. They fit PERFECT...and have never gave him any problems. Saved him a LOAD of cash too. Might want to consider those.

Well since they didn't fit this application...
THey must be junk.
My father-in-law has BBK ceramic coated shorties and they fit beautifully. Overall, they have a great rep. FMS headers are nice as well. Check the classifieds or Ebay.

Blah, Blah, Blah... BBK's fit excellent, and their quality is top notch.

My set of BBK's bolted right up and fit perfectly, and still look new!

Yes, but will BBK longtubes fit with an AOD tranny? I know MAC's make them just for auto's, but I don't really like their quality.

I'd call BBK direct and ask them if I were you. I know they have them, just find out the part number & see if there is a difference between the headers.

I bought MAC long tubes for my 90 LX. The drivers side would not clear the steering shaft so I decided that there wasn't much thought put into designing them. Instead of developing a work around, I bought a set of BBK long tubes . They slid right in, and sound and look great. Haven't been to the track yet to check performance.

The MAC's will be with me on the next swap meet trip. They were nothing but a waste of time and money.

ZoomEnt, do you have an automatic?

HiFlow50, the last I checked(yrs ago) Mac was the only company that made long tubes that would fit an auto car. They came out with them about 2 yrs after I had to settle on short tubes for mine. I don't know what is out there now but you need to ask whoever you order them from.. I had a set of long tubes, h-pipe and cat back I sat here and drooled over them laid out on the floor and they did not fit.. I had to send them back.

I've got the same problem as zoomemt w/ the driveside MAC lt header rubbing on the steering shaft.......it anoys the crap out of me. I'm thinking of selling them and going w/ BBK's. Auto or Manual, I don't think the problem w/ not clearing the steering shaft would change.....just my .02. Wanna buy mine? :D

Rick - MAC has seperate part numbers for long tubes for the 5-speed and automatic. I bought them for the automatic. For the money, I am happy with the BBK's. Went right in easy.

Good Luck

BBK does not make a header that fits an AOD equipped car. Their headers fit 5 speed cars only. MAC is one of the few companies that does.
