Just installed hawk pads........
 

I Just installed a set of hawk street plus pads on the front. Its like night and day. Anyone wanting a cheap upgrade, here it is.

My real question is, I was having squeaking noises coming from the front wheels. I thought it was the indicators on the pads but it still squeaks the same with the new pads. I did put anti-squeak goop on the backing plates when i installed them and did not remove the rotors. It was not warped or grooved at all to my surprise (I confirmed with a run-out guage), I then broke the glaze up with some 150 grit sand paper and cleaned it with brake cleaner. It still squeaks!

Any sugestions? Perhaps wheel bearings? It really stinks to drive into a "hot spot" and have everyone stare at you when it squeaks.

I'm curious about these pads, could you lend some more info on them? like the price and where you got them?

I've never heard of em. Do they fade less than the stock replacement ones?

sorry, can't help ya with the squeeking problem, it seems like with mine, it always squeeks a little right after the new pads are on and then goes away.

The squeaking problem has been going on since I bought the car (4 months ago), I thought the pad change would fix it. Its not coming from the pads, I think its the bearing.

I bought the pads from Brother's Performace outlet. I also added in a set of s.steel caliper sleeves to help with pedal feel and pad wear. They have street, street +, and a few racing compounds. I got the street + for 69.99 for a set of 4. They have NO fade whatsoever which is why I bought them. The difference between them and the stock pads was more then I expected. I need to get used to driving with them, I locked up the brakes earlier today in front of a cop by accident, a rear disc brake kit wuld be helpful now. If you are smooth on the pedal it doesn't lock, it just pulls the eyeballs out of your head:D

one other thing, they don't work out of the box, you need to do a "bedding in" process. Its is just a heat cycle to remove a layer of oils on the surface, its explained in the instrucions in the box. So if you are racing, bedd in a few sets of pads before you race so you can change them and have them work right away. Mine were smoking after I did it, now they work perfectly.

I saw your post awile back about the squeeking... Sounds like the bearing but check the suspension bushings as well. Have someone push down on the fender several times and check to see if it is causing it.

i'm not sure if this helps or not, but for what it's worth, my uncle races his 95 porsche 911 on road courses. when he races, he switches to different brake pads that squeak when they're not hot. try driving with a lot of hard braking to see if the sound goes away. i don't think this is it though, especially if they were squeaking to begin with....but you never know......

I had my pads VERY hot after the bedding in process (the anti squeal stuff was smoking), and it still squeaked the same. I bet its the suspension, I'l have to check it. the car niose dives when braking and roll a little bit around corners, so it is probably it, I will post my findings.

I got those same pads and they went in with the larger 73mm calipers, SS sleeves, and SS brake lines. I agree, they are great. I love the way mine stops. I never had a problem, though. I broke them in by heating it up for the first time and that was it. It never squeaked after that.

I don't know if this helps, when I replaced the brakes on my wifes galant the brakes squeeled because I did not turn the rotors. They did not look like the needed to be turned. After hearing the complaining for a month I did the brakes again and turned the rotors. No no more squeels?

THE WHEELS HAVE ALWAYS SQUEAKED SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR. SO ITS NOT FROM ANYTHING I DID OR DIDN'T DO WHEN I INSTALLED THE PADS. ANY OTHER SUGESTIONS? AND ITS NOT THE SUSPENSION. IT LOOKS LIKE I'M GOING TO HAVE TO TAKE THE ROTOR OFF AND REPLACE THE BEARING.

Turn the rotors, new pads= no squeaks, I doubt its the bearings.

Never change pads without truing the rotors.
