Breaking in new gears!
 

I've heard people say there is no break in period for new gears, I've heard others say they must be broken in. All I know is that I'm getting my new 3.73's soon, and I need to know what I need to do in order to have them last and not have them whine like one of my friends does. What's the proceedure? Do I need to vary speed, keep it under a certain speed, not spin tires for x amount of miles? How long is this break in period? Please let me know the right way to do this! Thanks.

I have heard people say to drive it for 10 minutes then let them cool for 10 minutes...Do that process at least 2-3 times.

How I broke in my first set of gears which are still in the car:

Rev to 4,000rpm, dump the clutch and dont shift til you hit the red-line in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd...

I just drove mine normally to break them in. But, man the first day and a half or so they were very noisy. It sounded like my whole rear end was going to fall out. I guess it takes a while for the friction modifier to get worked around in the differential. Enjoy your new gears!

seriously though, I just drove mine on the highway about 20-30 minutes, as I was told by the mechanic that installed them.
No whine whatsoever from them in 3 years.

Guys, you've been very helpful. I'm not quite sure I feel comfortable just driving normally from the get-go though. I think I'll probably take it easy ad follow that break in schedule from hiflow5.0's shop.......sounds good to me!
