What do you think i should do?

I havent been able to make up my mind lately.... so i figured i would ask a bunch of other mustang junkies haha.... I have always wanted to "rod" out a mustang... now that i have mine i can... but its TOTALY stock, as far as the engine goes... besides dual exhaust... Do you guys and gals think i should do the typical roding stuff (that i would love to do) like new cam, intake, and 4 barrel, then headers?... i know that would overall lower the value of my stock mustang, but i bought it to have fun and go fast.... it runs probably 16's in the 1/4 mile, all stock w/ two barrel, which is descent... i just havent been able to make up my mind lately.... i would love to have a 3.25 posi instead of the current 2.75 one legger also.... but it all puts me back into the same delema... thanks for all your help....

well me personally I would rod it out. I have A 66 coupe witch I am going to rod out. except I don't have to worry about value cuz mine is A 6cyl and I bought it to help me learn more about cars. so that helps me make up my mind. mine will be any thing but stock as far as the drive line goes. but it will look stock. really your call no matter what any body says I would do what you like best.

My advice is to modify the heck out of it if you intend to drive it. The early Mustangs actually suck some as drivers in my opinion. Only if you want a show car should you keep it original,

Engine, suspension, brakes, lots of other improvements are readily available as upgrades for the early Stangs.

I agree with Rev, go for it! Save all the old parts if you want and have them available if ever decide to sell.

David Fulford 06-19-2002 12:39 PM

Modify the crap out of it!!!!!

Metal396 06-19-2002 02:55 PM

Unless it is a rare car (shelby, hi-po, GT ect..), mod it.

What's wrong Rev, couldn't sleep last night? :)

Hell I say if ya got the time and money go ahead and mod it like mad. Enough power to flip your car backwords. :D Now wouldn't that be cool. lol Put a big *** blower on it, those always get everyone's attention and hell I'm told they add power too (Remember Fast and the Furious!!) lol :D Damn ricers will be so afraid. They will just have memory relapses of that scene in the movie. lol

yeah my modifications will be done on a pretty tight budget.... im in highschool, and looking for a job right now haha..... i better not go out to eat for a while hehe.... but i was thinking , lunati cam, weiand intake manifold, and holly 600 cfm carb.... then fit some headers under there... my neighbor was telling me that the comp headers (alot more expensive) are alot better on the engine and are easier to fit in... is that true? id like to find some 8 inch wide mag rims to put in the back.... and then other small mods... i will keep you all posted on how everything goes... thanks ...

Dude go for it. I have a pretty rare car and have modified it. It is your car do whatever you want to with it. I can't wait to get back. I am going to totally go crazy with the car. It is going to recive a mustang 2 front suspension. Get back halved and 4 link put in with an 8 point roll cage. Then the good ole 428 is going to get about 700 ponies NA ofcourse. So i am sure there is going to be alot of people out there that hate me for that. I get crap for what is already done to it. But i just usally tell them to bite me it is mine i can do what ever the hell i want to with it.
where you from in california anyway. I grew up in Barstow and now my parents live in Rancho cucamonga.

BigJimSlade 06-20-2002 10:25 AM

If you bought the car to mod...mod it. The value really comes down to you. If you are happy with your car and don't plan on selling it to a collector...then modify it. I just bought a 65 convertible 6cyl. It will never be worth a lot of money so I plan on modding it to the car that I want. Cheaper then buying the car that I want. I hate VIN numbers...

This winter I plan on dropping either a 289 or 302 in the front end and a 4 spd. Won't increase the value much but man will it move better. That is what is important to me. I didn't get this car as an investment. I got it to enjoy.

ENJOY THE CAR...that is what it comes down to.

Hey 69Fastback, im from East Highlands ranch, in san bernardino county... its the verry base of the mountains, by the road the enters into big bear lake .... if you know where that is... as for my mustang, its alot easier to find windsor parts around here than cleveland haha.... anybody know a website that has specific information on the FMX transmission? i havent found info on headers for cleveland w/ fmx, only c-4...

zhead80 06-25-2002 01:21 AM

Metal396 06-30-2002 12:48 PM

Ive been looking at headers and found some hooker headers for the cleveland engine, but nothing that will clear the FMX transmission... they all require a c-4 unfortunately.. so far ive had no luck with finding headers that will work.... oh and because i have power steering its gunna be a pain to put any in haha...

Bad idea! Chrome turns blue in short order and looks like crap! Get ceramic coated headers! They look like new aluminum (or other color) and look good almost forever. They also retain heat better providing less under hood heat. Since they retain heat they better contribute to hp and economy. Virtually all header manufacturers offer ceramic coats as an option (doubles the price but its worth it).
