I think she's gonna blow. (transmission)

Third gear grinds every time I shift into it. The tranny is hurting.

What's typically the problem? What are ball-park repair costs?

Rebuild or replace? I probably won't go with a Tremec because of cost, so, that really leaves the only option as world-class t-5. Can the stock t-5 be built stronger than the world-class t-5?

Thanks

A Tremec isnt really much more than a "world class" T-5 (which really isnt anything special).

With the Tremec 3550, all you would need is a bellhousing from a SROD mustang that you can pickup cheap from a junkyard.

If your gonna spend over $1000 on a new transmission, then why not spend just a couple hundred more and NEVER have to worry about the transmission again (that is unless you plan on a ****load of power down the line)

grinding into third is most likely the syncros.

if you do work yourself and are careful you can probably rebuild it yourself. I rebuilt mine myself and am a far cry from a mechanic. You can get a 94 pc. rebuild kit for $159, I got mine from D&D Performance. It has everything you need. And a manual for $20, it has all of the information you need in it to do the rebuild.

If you don't plan on doing it yourself or can't get good deals from local shops then I don't know if it would be much cheaper than just buying a new tranny.

Good luck with it
