Mobil 1 synthetic oil

For those of you running synthetic oil, which wieght are you using?

I have always used mobil 1 in my vehicles, but the stang calls for 5w-20 and Mobil 1 dont make it. 5w-30 is the closest I can get.

Is anyone running 5w-30? Or do you use a different brand?

That's what I'm going

use. Walmart had it for $17.88 5qt, so I brought 3. Can't see any problems, my 87 I ran 5w 50 and had 150k on it when I sold it. Ran like new.:D

Mike,

For some reason the 02 stangs (or maybe just mine):) call for 5w20. Dont know why, but I am sure about it. says so right on the oil fill cap too

MiracleMax 07-06-2002 07:25 PM

I use 0w30 in the 02

Badass_yellowGT 07-07-2002 05:43 PM

i love mobil 1 but for the same money buy royal purple you can pick up like 5+ horse power by putting it in the complete drive train and willconsiderably reduce friction and heat

oh yea i use mobil one 10-30

The '01 GT calls for 5W20 and says in the owner's manual (in all caps) not to use synthetic oil under any circumstance, so I've been using 5W20 since I bought the car. Only thing is, I went 1500 miles over...without checking (like an idiot) and threw a rod. I'm still using the regular oil in the reman engine and it runs fine, but i'm dying to use synthetic...

SilverGT02 07-09-2002 08:35 AM

Maybe I missed it in my 02 manual, but I didnt see anywhere it saying not to use synthetic...But now u have me thinking...Ill have to go out and check it again

Good Question!!!!!!!

I'm glad someone mentioned this! I've been pretty upset that Ford started using 5W20......here are the answers.

Ford and Honda are the two first to start the trend, which most will probably follow. The Federal Government was pushing the manufactures to get better gas mileage out of their vehichles (I forgot the program name) so Ford and Honda decided to go to 5W20 to get better mileage. The mileage is nothing the human could ever see, but with all cars together it makes a difference. This lighter weight oil is causing severe stress on the motors, but Ford states if anything comes in and they do a oil test.....they won't warranty it if your running a different weight.

I've thought about this long and hard. Like I said, it's got me pissed. I've always run the 5W30 Mobil One and Mobil doesn't plan that it will be out anytime soon. AMSOIL wrote a huge article about it, you might want to check out the website. They say to use the 5W30, but they aren't the ones risking the warranty. I haven't been brave enough to go with the 5W30. AMSOIL makes the 5W20, but I've heard missed feelings on the company. I've got a 2001 and my weight is the same.....but I haven't seen any warnings about using synthetic!......

The only thing I've heard about not using synthetic in Stangs is during the break in period.
