Cobra R Hood

I recently bought a Cobra R hood. I had a guy paint it for me and it turned out really bad. I have taken the car to a few body shops and they told me that it is the quality of the hood and that it can be fixed but for close to 1,000. Is this true? I bought the hood from CINCINNATI COMPOSITES the hood was 219.00. What should I do? Has anyone had the same problem? Can anyone help me.

MIKESHAW 07-03-2002 05:49 PM

it may cost that much because for 1 they have to fixed to garbage paint on the hood. 2 for it to look right they have to blend the hood to the fenders and the front nose of the car. that could cost some money. what might help get the cost down is to strip the paint off the hood. then get estimates to paint.

Your best bet to save money is to sand it down and fix any blemishes yourself if it is within your abilities.
Like MIKESHAW said, it sounds like the new shop wants to do it right, which requires blending all adjacent panels.
When my hood got keyed it was over $1000 to get it fixed due to the blending they had to do. One time I also accidentally Judo threw my friend onto the fender of a Honda and smashed it and had to pay over $1000 for that as well. So basically it looks like $1000 is what it costs these days to get something painted and blended.

I like the Cobra R hood, It is just the quality of the Hood that I bought, The hood is wavey and does not look to good. I just gave up on the hood and ordered the more expensive one I am looking to find someone to paint it now. Do you paint cars???

NOSstang08690,

I am going to get an estimate from a body shop just down the road. My friend bought a Cowl hood and they matched the paint for $250. He said they would paint the hood black for $100. I have not seen the work yet. It is to good to be true!!! If the price is too steep I am going to paint the hood myself. I am not really a body person, I just do what ever I can.

The Cobra R hood is great looking. I have the Cervini's. Its not a good picture but it the white hood at the left. That is my Dad's 90 Lx and the other is My 69 Mustang. We both drag race heavy. I do all the work for both cars. If you need any work done I would be glad to help!!

How about you what kind of mustang/s do you have??

I have a 1997 Mustang GT. I am more into performance than looks, but I wanted to change the look alittle. The new hood I bought is from Cervini's It is the Cobra R. I think it will look alot better than the one I have. also have a 91 GT. Both Mustangs have a 165 shot of Nitrous on them, slicks and all the bolt on go fast parts. The 1997 Gt runs 12.42, not sure what the 91 runs just yet. That price for body work is super cheap, let me know if it looks good. Do you go to E-Towm???

NOSstang08690,

I race at E-town and Island Dragway. I am planning to run 2 shows at E-town in September. I go to Island dragway ever Saturday. Its a real fun track. Not as pretty as E-town but the track is good and not a slick as E-town. The people up there are great.

Wow 12.42. My 69 Runs in the mid 12's on just motor. I bet it would be a good race!!! Where is Hamilton, NJ?

Take care

Your first mistake was buying from Cinncinatti Composites. They have gotten lawsuits up the yang for bad hoods. I'd suggest you join the lawsuit bandwagon.
I'm trying to get a hold of the person conducting it. You have an email I can have her reach you at??

I had the exact same problem when I ordered a hood for my Chevy Truck. I don't know if any of you have seen these or not, but it is called a Z78 Hood. It is a Truck hood that is designed like the WS-6 TA, this is for a 90 model C1500 , not the newer ones with the curved hoods (99+ Chevy)... It is hand molded by a guy, and I got one of the first few that were made and shipped. It cost about 1100.00 to get it painted and surfaced. The paint shop said it was a very very rough hood and it took them almost a week to get it smooth enough to paint.

Now, my Cervini's hood that I ordered was almost perfect.. infact, the same paint shop (mentioned above) said that it was one of the best condition aftermarket hoods they've seen in a long time. It only cost about 300.00 total to surface/paint (mostly cause I had them stripe and outline it, like the first Z28/SS back in the late 60's)...
