I'm new, and I have a question
Let's see, how can I make this sound like an addictions meeting? ;)
I know: "Hi, I'm Steve, and I'm addicted to Mustangs and horsepower" :D I've got an '83 GT that's still mostly stock other than my exhaust (Hedman equal length shortie hedders, Dynomax UltraFlo welded mufflers, 2 1/2" mandrel bent tubing all exiting out of 3" chrome tips). Anyway, my question is this: This fall/winter I'm planning on porting my heads, and picking up a new carb. Now, I figure that while I'm at it, I might as well grab a new intake as well, so I thought I'd start on some homework. I know that I wanna go with a dual plane intake, and the intake that's got my eye at the moment, after looking through a few catalogs and websites, is the Edelbrock RPM Air Gap. Seeing as how I've got the catalog in front of me right now, I can see their opinion of it, and I can also read about what it'll do for me. But I was wondering if anyone else has any opinions of this thing, or hell, I'll take opinions of any other dual plane intake as well. C'mon! Lay 'em on me. |
Well are you looking to keep alot of drivable low end torque? or all out high rpm power? the dual plane is usually a good choice for a vacuum sec carb, and stock or mild heads and cam, but a ported heads, and b or f-cammed motor, with a mechanical sec carb would work well with a vic jr. intake for pulling up to 6800-7k rpms, in your case a dual plane with stock ported heads and stock cam wont need to see 7k....welcome to the board also.

I have read in 5.0 Mustang mag, that the victor jr. trades torque for horsepower. They did a dyno run on a 392 stroker. They compared the Victor Jr. Performer RPM, and the Performer RPM Air Gap. Here are the numbers straight out of the mag. Victor: Horse=465@5600 Torque=469@4600 RPM: Horse=455@5500 Torque=484@4000 RPM Air Gap: Horse=461@5700 Torque=486@4000.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that test they did.
I've got that mag around here somewhere. BTW, yeah, I'm looking to keep it streetable, since it's my summertime daily driver. So because of that, the single plane Victor Jr. intake wouldn't really be that great of a choice. |
GO with the Ebok Performer package. I had this on my 302, and sort'a on my 351.
|
Just in case, it was the June 2002 issue. They also covered most engine swaps too. 4cyl to 5.0, 3.8 to 5.0, 5.0 to 351.

I found it this morning. As usual, it was staring me right in the face, but I couldn't see it.

If you do any cool weather driving, ~12C or less then you should get the RPM not the air gap. The air gap can cause the fuel to puddle and make the car run poorly. I think the air gap isn't worth the extra coin personally and I believe the differences in power would be less on a milder motor. I've got the RPM intake and I love it, if you need the newest gimmick then the air gap is it.

Hey SilentNoise, welcome to Mustangworks ;) (I won't tell). When I had my '84 I seriously was considering a Weiand Stealth intake, so that gets my vote.

i like my intake and cam, seems to pull hard to about 6 grand+..

As for the intake, I've got the Holley catalog kicking around downstairs. I'll look into it. |
Performer RPM gets my vote, I have had it for many years and love it.
